Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Here are the videos and my album of pics for this years display. Many things remained the same and some changed up. First video is in front of my house second is continued in front of my neighbors house. This is my first year for collecting for Make A Wish, I have been blown away by peoples kindness and generosity! I just love this time of year.

Thank you so much! I haven't used the Santas in a while and wanted to have a reason for a big group of them. Mr Griswald gave me the idea for the reindeer in training and I like how it makes people laugh. The display is a year long work in progress and I enjoy it, thank you for your kind words.

Thank you so much Elaine, the Nativity is my favorite. I have found that the groupings make it easier to use more molds and have it make sense, atleast to me LOL Your display already compares to this, your flying santa made my jaw drop!

Thank you so much, I am a detail person it takes a little more time but in the end I think it's worth it. The train scene I did last year and liked it so much it came back, did the village last year as well but added the third house this year, I have some more ideas for more of them if I move that nextdoor next year.

Tom, your display is beautiful! Your Nativity is probably my favorite part of the display and I plan to buy the life size Nativity sometime this year. It really is a nice set (although I love the Santa's Best set also). All the Santas displayed together is so cool! I really like that! Your choir display is absolutely amazing as well!

Mr. and Mrs. Rabbit look really good repainted for Christmas as well as the Victorian caroler woman and girl. You really did a fantastic job! I know this took a lot of planning and hard work and it really shows!

Thank you so much, the Nativity is my favorite part as well. I was using the Santas Best set and would have continued but after getting this set, I think this is now the set. It does not get lost in the display, I also added a few of the SB pieces to it. I add a little to the choir each year, I had wanted a big one. I was not sure if I would like the army of Santas LOL But once I got em out there I admit I like it, but I still prefer my snowmen, but it's nice to change things up. I spent every extra minute this year painting or building something this year I have a lot of fun prepping, and then it goes so fast!

I am so glad that after Christmas slowed down I was able to come and see your wonderful display on here. I love how the Santa camp and the reindeer training turned out. I also love the arch conversion and the nice touch of the notes hanging down. Your little details like the chocolate Santa and candy land tease my eyes and imagination. I believe your entrance way is by far the best I have ever seen and you now have convinced me to hunt down a set of those Santa boots. Matt this is so amazing. Thanks for all your efforts on your display and Happy New Year!

Just curious is the vacucell carolers you have out there the same set from indoors or are you a lucky dog and own 2 sets?
