  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

PlanetChristmas is getting a face lift.

So It Begins........

I swore I was going to wait until next weekend until after I took down all of the Halloween decorations, but I decided it would be even crazier to pass up the unseasonably warm weather than it would be to be that weirdo in the neighborhood with Santa on the roof and pumpkins in the gardens.  I can live with the mockery from the neighbors, so I am glad I started the harder, heavier stuff on the roof.  I won't touch the ground stuff until next week though......I promise!

That looks great.   I would love to put my reindeer on the roof like that, but with a pond out back, and soccer field across the street, a 20 mph wind is a calm day.

That little ridge on your roof is just perfect for setting up the Santa, sleigh, and reindeer!

I can relate to you.  In the OKC area.  Winds all the time and 20-30 MPH is a normal, calm day for most of the year.  Sand bags work, so give it a try if you don't mind lugging them up the roof.

Thanks for al the good compliments.  I will post more as I go or at the end once all setup is done.  Likely by Thanksgiving or the week after.  Goal is no later than December 1.  Good luck to everyone as you begin your set up.

Okay, I have to ask? Which Santa is the imposter/wannabe? Is it the one inside the chimney or the one in the sleigh?   :P

Looks awesome, your not the only weirdo...I am also taking advantage of the warm weather and starting tomorrow!  Plan on doing everything on the roofline.   I'm in a new house this year so will be slow figuring out what exactly I want to do.

It's a Union Products set.  I've had it for about 15 years or so now.  Ordered direct from UP along with 2 dozen or so other molds.  You used to be able to order minimum of $500 (I believe that's what it was) and have shipped direct from the factory to your home.  That was my first bulk, direct purchase of blowmolds ever.

I've even asked myself the same thing.  Always question whether I should have two Santa's up there.  But the Poloron Santa in chimney looks really cool on the roof instead of on the ground and having Santa's sleigh with the 9 reindeer also makes an impact, so both must go up!  Anyway, like most of us mold collectors, there will be another 2 dozen or so Santa's on the ground anyway (there's another Santa Claus, there's another Santa Claus.......... - Bob Rivers, Twisted Christmas).

I have also only had 1 Santa in the display, but this year I am adding the full set of sleigh and reindeer on the roof.  I think as long as only 1 is lighted at  a time you get a pass.

Can't wait to see it in person. Did you make your Merry Christmas sign? If so, do you have plans? If not, remember which store? Online vendor?
