  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

I'll be up in running in Deltaville Sunday night. I'm static right now, got a week behind in early November and never caught up. Getting the show section up at night this week and hope to be fully a go by Sunday.

It took some doing but I barely finished Sunday before I had to hit the sack so I could leave for work at 4am on Monday. I also managed to get a new sign put together so I have my new station. Come by during a weekend, that is the only time that I am home now, and please let me know when it will be. I am brainstorming for next year and would love to have some ideas.

I should be up by Sunday.  If the creek doesn't rise, and it stops raining long enough for me to hook up everything electronically.

Our lights are up and operating. Took 1 week with 1+ days of bad weather interrupting setup. Gotta figure out how to cut down on the extension cords!

It's not a great photo, but we're up and running in Deltaville! 113,000 lights this year.

I have to show off this new feature: Last year, we introduced the 20' tall "Walk-In Tree" - no pole in the middle, so kids could go inside. Great photo op. This year we added a control panel (rigged with illuminated buttons hooked into an LOR input pup) that kids can make the tree change color and spin, as well as turn on strobe lights. It's been a hit!

We are live - thanks to my son. If it wasn't for him, I'd be struggling. Thankfully he was paying attention all these years.

Were are you located Ralph? I forgot. I've been meaning to go by the last couple of years, but things keep getting in the way. My brother-in-law lives near Rose Petal, so I get to see them every year.
