  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

If anyone knows how to turn off the overhead sprinklers I would appreciate the help. If I can get the mega tree and roof done today/tomorrow I will be golden. If not no sleep for me before/after work.

Thanks big j. Yours looks awesome. Still a bit more to go but will be done before dec 1st. Even put a walking path thru the yard too so people don’t stand in the street.

Got the lights on the house, my 20" pole with 5 shooting stars up and the Mega built so far this weekend.

Trying to corral 6 people to help me put the mega up. It has 12 CCB strings running off of 6 controllers topped with a hand made 3' star out of coroplast with 490 LED's. All in all, will have 8 CTB16's for 128 channels, 1 - 8 Channel RGB by LOR and then of course the mega for a total of 20,700 lights / pixels

Included in this years display are 4 Holiday Coro singing trees, 10 mini trees each with 300 lights, 4 holiday Coro white trees with 300 lights each, lights on fence and 12 RGB floods

Here is what the mega looks like waiting for my volunteers to help me put it up.

I don't mind heights until I have the ladder in the bed of my truck and I'm standing on the top step! Lol the things we do for our obsession

My big push starts Tuesday when my help arrives.  Did some of the grunt work this weekend.  I got my mega pole up, and hung a leveled the new dumb RBG stars I made this year.  This is a test of one of them powered by a 6 volt battery.

I got 75% done today, ran out of light and I promised the wife I would go to the store. Maybe tomorrow after work. Just need to light a few more bushes, some more garland and connect everything. Already building my post season sale shipping list!

Gosh my display looks like nothing compared to all of yours... I have counted ever light strand i had today and im at 5,000 lights total 3000 static and 2000 animated.

in this picture is pretty much all of the animated part. i moved couple things around and will get new pictures tonight.

I am just waiting to get my LOR box, wire, net adapter to plug all in and see how bad my sqences are lol still using Mr Christmas right now for testing these lights

preview.jpg

I've never done a Light-O-Rama light show. I only use the Mr Christmas wireless lights and sounds of Christmas. I got it from Home Depot a couple years back lol. But I will eventually do a LOR light show one year

What did you make it out of and did you use a specific template?

I have made mine out of rope light and tried writing Merry Christmas in cursive. Once lit up, it look pretty good. And like Big J said, a lot of zip ties to mold the letters into shape!!!

If you look at the picture on my Facebook page, you'll see what I mean. https://www.facebook.com/LincolnlightshowNB/

Hey Jeff,  is that stuff you picked up or did you have it already?

It's all stuff I made or collected. This year I got my hands on a stash of C9 twinkle lamps so I decided to add a little sparkle to the tree. I made a C9 string with 50 sockets at three foot spacing and loaded it up with the clear twinkle lamps. I put them on first and then added the rest of the lights on after. Under the second photo in my post you'll see " linus_2017.MOV " Click it on to see a video of the display.

Here's how I made the stars with blinking bells: https://youtu.be/JGjCYvxDmKE

No where near as impressive as some, but I like it. This is about 5k lights and I still have a hole in the back left corner. I may or may not get around to adding lights there. I'm out of c3 net lights and minis are a pain to put up. I need to work out a larger sign to hang from the arch next year, this one isn't really visible from the street. Mickey and minnie kind of outshine it! You also can't see the projectors in these pics, one with an image of the three wise men on the garage door and Mickey and Minnis under mistletoe on the wall by the front door. Next year I'd like to add more candy canes to line the sidewalk to the front door, about 1000 more c3 net lights and probably another 1500 multi c6 on the trees. Plus something to fill the back left corner.

Had a chance to light it all up last night! Already planning a mega tree for next year and adding more lights to the blue tree (aka buying a new controller and its already filled). Let me know what you all think! sorry for the blurry photos, LEDs are just so bright and it was cold out lol .

The multi-tree is PVC and "spirals" - 6 strings of 50ft dome light, 25 feet to each "side" for a total of 12 strings down the tree.

The blue tree is new this year- so let me know what you think! no fancy tricks here just blinks to the music

Arch is 30ft pvc, 8 sections and of course is leaps!

2 lights poles are each 5 sections so they can dance to the music too.

didn't get a good photo of just the 5 mini trees and the net light wall. Far right of the whole display photo.  Net lights were supposed to go on the roof but my idea didn't work out so I made a giant 16X 10 ft need and hung it between two trees.

Only thing missing is our blowmolds (manager display and a santa), our tune-to radio station sign and our donation box (100% FOR CHARITY).Those will all go out later this week or on Friday before the big reveal.

vette-kid:  what are those two lit-up items on the fence gate?  Are they blow-molds?

They didn't show up well in the lit picture. They are Disney neon glow frames. It's led made to look like neon and they are BRIGHT! I'm eyeballing a Santa, snowman and reindeer just like them for next year. A little pricey unless you get then on sale though. 599dd9c9e6b0f4b564b67dedaaf1893e.jpg

Does that white tree have one pole in the center, if to how do you make it? I have two poles in my yard that have been there for years and I'm turning them into Christmas trees. I'm thinking you zip tie the lights to the top of the pole then I can use some Inflatable base steaks and steak the light strands into the ground.

There are several ways to do it. The way that I did it was I have a 2 inch PVC pipe schedule 40 that is 12 feet tall and on the top I just drove for screws and wrap them in electrical tape. There's a total of 12 strands running open over last year I did it with 24 but I ran out of channels for my light O Rama controllers. And then I just use Landscaping Stakes to hold the ends of the lights down.

Finally got some decent string of days to finish up. Had my 4 year old daughter "helping" me and this beaut of a sweater to power through to the finish. Should finish and hopefully have some pics tomorrow of everything.8181060c1219979c6927762ed1728279.jpg
