  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

I went to gp designs again and bought some bells. I was pretty lucky I got the ball ornaments. They were old stock so I bought all there was! They even have the old style plugs on them

Happy New Year everyone. Saturday May 2rd. Nancy Foley graciously wants to host us at her house in Olympia, WA. This has been an awesome location and event for over 10 years now, and we have gotten bigger each year. We will still have the Set Up Gathering and Pizza Meet & Greet on Friday for those in the area or staying in the area. This notice is to reserve your calendars for the date, and to provide suggestions for subject matter. More to follow as the planning progresses. (I copied Mark's post from last year :-) )

Could have heated the plastic with a hair dryer. Got it warm and either stuck your hand inside the mold or get a broom stick and pop it out. Since GF is exchanging you won't have to but now you know for later. And GFs customer service has improved over the years.

Hey Mark since Dennis blew you off I'll chime in. Nice to see another PacNW light crazy. We have a pretty active group, with a lot of knowledge base about a wide variety of subjects. If you look in the state section under WA, you can see past agenda's. We span north, south and only slightly east (Vancouver Island) with folks that come from OR, CA, FL, ID, MT and western Canada. We have been meeting for around 10+ years in the Lacey area. It's always an action packed day with one of the best venue's in the country. Plus its FREE to attend, well that is except the investment of your time. There usually is a day and a half of things, Friday afternoon set up and Pizza Feast, then C.L.A.P. starts Saturday morning. Let us know what else you want to know, and oh, just ignore Dennis (DSE), he can be a bit edgy till he zaps himself in the morning. I think we are just about ready to post the agenda maybe this week sometime, if you have any special requests, let us know......
