  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

Just like everyone else, it keeps growing, and growing!!
  1. Needs A Restoration!

Awww that's sooo cute, I love it!!!
  2. Why I mainly use Pro lights

I have been doing silicone at the ends under the end caps for years, at least 8 now LOL!!! I really, really don't think that's the case, because its happen 3 times, with only these lights, not any others Ive ever used. Plus on the last two sets they were both in use , the first maybe 3 weeks, the second set prolyy 1 1/2 -2 months, and on top of it, I cant see how the connectors would become loose with all the tape holding it together.
  3. Still can't post pics

J, try going to app store or google apps or what ever you have on your phone, and type in picture resizer, it brings up a bunch of really easy free apps that will do it. Or reduce the resolution of pics, which you probably don't want to do. Or one other thing you can try is setting tab on the picture on your phone, then adjustment, then resize, I know this makes the picure it self smaller, but not sure how much it reduces file size which is want important...
  4. problems uploadiing pics

I use the same, or paint from desktop, not sure about mobile, but sure there's got to be a bunch of free apps to resize
  5. Why I mainly use Pro lights

Here's another reason that I mainly use pro lights. Last season I wanted to re wire my 3d star from my mega tree. The lights that were on it, were led rope lights from christmas-leds , they were about 8 season old, and still worked fine, but I didnt like the way I wired them, one was a split cord, and longer, which just erked my ocd. So i saw a great deal on a whole 150" spool of some bargain light from vida? I mean great deal, so I said with Ill get it. Well after I put my tree up, a couple of days later [luckily before going live] One section is out, so I take the tree down, and see it looks like a section burned out, I rationalize well I didn't zip tie this one section down well, I thing it rubbed, and caused the sheathing to get nicked, and it arched? I know long shot, but I mean the lights were totally burnt, I mean arched, black mess. I thought I took pictures, but I cant find them. So I say Ill rewire it, because I still have over 120'!! A couple of weeks go by, and I see one section of one rope is burnt out, but I'm not going to take it down now, It will have to wait till summer. Fast forward to this summer, I get the star out, light it up on bench, ok here's the dead part, let me putt around do this and that ,and I hear something, like running water, shhhhhh, about that time I smell it, burning plastic/wire, I look down, and now see the smoke! SO I imediatley unplug it, and wait for it to go out, I should've took a third picture, that burn went down below the tape for 1 1/2 feet, it was totally arched, I mean wtf hazard here. Then thinking about it, I originally forgot, when I first got it, and set the very first cord, it shorted out the absolute minute I plugged it in the first time. I know this sounds stupid, but I remember thinking way back then , I must have installed backwards, which would not make this happen any way... At any rate this is yet another reason/lesson to why I use mainly pro lights, I mean I still use some consumer lights like GE etc, but never again on some where that is hard to access during the season....
  6. 2017 Blow Mold Gifts!!!

Prolly Monday morning Ill finally have time to work on these guys, Ive been going strong lately trying to get caught up, set up time is coming WAY Quick!!! At any rate I'm definetley not taking the sockets out, the wires are shot, so their going. But what I plan to do first is using the same extra hole that the cord came out of, and trying a clip in C-7, since Its white, I really think it will be enough, i mean I have 2 sets of brown, that work fine with C-7's. But if I feel its not enough, I have no problem what so ever rewiring the original sockets with new spt 2 wire.
  7. 2017 Outdoor display filler

One suggestion, for more power outside, if you have a washer/dryer in basement, or some where near they are usaully always a 20, or 30 amp dedicated breaker, so as long as you don't do laundry when lights are on, you can totally utilize them. I did this for years , before adding 7 dedicated only for Christmas Wonderland breakers, to switches, so I can just flip switches from basement. I really like the balls on the arborvitaes, they look great! I'm a big fan of garland it wold go great wit them, and makes them move in the daylight!
  8. More additions tonight

    WOW, Awesome!!!!
  9. Nice GF Surprise

After reading that GF is all done, the first thing I did after that thread was to order my 4th, and last life size camel for that Nativity. I got him from Bronners, have been holding back for a while hoping maybe to get another with the red, and white saddle, guesss that wont happen!! At any rate when I opened it up , I had a really nice surprise that bought a smile to my America Loving, army veteran face!! But then it got even better: A new socket, which didn't need to be cut for a led bulb!!! BTW Phillips bulbs will fit in any blow mold socket without having to cut them, and they were just on sale at HD, for like $4 a four pack!!!!, and they also had 40 watt ones will Ill prolly pick up more back ups of. What a shame GF is gone, I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see them getting bought out. And I also hate to say, and hope Im wrong again, but I don't see Cado Union making it, really hope I'm wrong.....
  10. 2017 Blow Mold Gifts!!!

WOW, Mel so nice of you to take them out for this thread, very appreciated !! WOW it sounds like I have MSL, and never even knew they existed before this thread! I'm pretty sure the sleigh said nothing at all on it, Ill look again tomorrow. The sleigh is definetley on its its last leg, I wont display, or even know if I can keep it, its totally falling apart, and looks like it was repaired many times long ago. But one thing I noticed is my Santa is slightly different than the pic, and maybe , the mold name was blurred out, or just looks like they slipped with the drill, drilling the back hole.
  11. 2017 Blow Mold Gifts!!!

WOW after reading the other threads about these, I don't know, I didn't even know about the company MSL until this thread! I would've guessed it was theirs only because Beco would've had their name on it, and I thought GF would always had it on there, but who knows!! Heres a couple of pics of the lights, i the deer, the Santa has the same exact bulb holder knob thingy:
  12. New way to install SPT Sockets

Dave, great minds think a like!!! Digger, I'm in Orange
  13. 2017 Blow Mold Gifts!!!

WOW, Thanks all for the info, and compliments!!! Mel, Thanks so much, I will definetley read that link that you posted, and please don't go through all that trouble, I will look more into, it. Ted I haven't had the time to come here in a couple of days, but I promise Ill try to take pics tomorrow , and yes they do the reindeer, and santa both have 60 watt bulbs in them, and I meant to say I'll try c-7's for sure, I mean since their white, I think it will be more than enough, and Im going to put them on a chasing controller, like the original owner did!!!
  14. Bought These Today

Very nice, and with the boxes awesome!!!!
