  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. Anyone MOD'd these before?

Not sure about those but the GE brand minis i have fade just fine. I would imagine the rope light would as well. Something to think about, if you do decide to wrap minis on them will they get tangled in the fishing line that's use to hang the tree?
  2. Over 35,000 lights and Setup begins in October. Enjoy the lights! https://eurekamochristmaslights.weebly.com/
  3. I have all the small stuff put away. Just the 4 mega trees and the roof basically left. Some bushes and odd stuff here and there. Was 50 degrees today so that helped out a lot. Calling for rain tomorrow and then back to 25 degrees This weekend. This weather has been crazy.
  4. Commercial shoot?

That's sweet, go for it. Never been approached by anyone like that.
  5. After Christmas sales

I got around 2k blue LEDs from menards and around 2500 red LEDs from walmart. Some rope light. Everything around me went quick as well.
  6. LED Tree Lights Too Bright

Maybe some of you others may have more info but this may help. My LOR controller dims these supposedly non dimmable leds just fine. Not sure if it's the same kind of controller used fro wall dimmers.
  7. Something that I think would be helpful is a way to organize the threads that you have participated in. For example if i comment on this post like i am, then on my profile or via a link on the home page I can see at once if the thread i engage in have new content posted on them. No just a list of all the comments I've posted or threads I've started. Hopefully that made sense
  8. 2017 Christmas Display

Biggest year yet, setup began mid October, can check out the website for the display here: https://eurekamochristmaslights.weebly.com/ Enjoy the pics, constructive criticism is always appreciated.
  9. Well I never.....

That's awesome, some may not have been so fortunate to even have money for a tree, and that Walmart could have just made a families Christmas
  10. 2017 Christmas Display

Thanks! The neighbors are all nice about it, never complain. Maybe if you lived next door then we could really decorate it up. Always wished one of the neighbors would go for it.
  11. 2017 Christmas Display

    Thank you!
  12. 2017 Christmas Display

Thank you! Glad you enjoy it
  13. Target Christmas Clearance! ALREADY?

I was at lowes today and almost all lights are gone except projection lights. I got 2 blowmolds half off. Inflatables left. Things are looking bleak for those clearance sales.
  14. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

I get asked about the number of lights and the power bill question all the time. I tell them over 35k lights because I don't really know, to the normal person It just seems like a way to measure the size of a display. For example if someone has 300 blow molds it doesn't sound as impressive as a large number of lights, but when it comes down to it both are equally impressive and take a lot of work and passion. I don't think the size of a display should be measured by the # of lights or # of figures or whatever the case may be, but rather the am mount of work and passion the creator has to set up a display of any size. But the general public likes hearing the amount of lights and how long it takes and ect.
  15. mnull, I love the fact your blow molds are not spread all over your yard, you have a lot going on but they are displayed nicely. What did you use for the white section in your river? I've been trying to figure out a material to use for that for a while
  16. That's a really good idea, as long as it works that's all that matters
  17. Thank you! How did you hang that wreath? It probably is decently heavy
  18. Looks great! I love the way your windows are outlined very clean. That wreath is gorgeous! By no means am i an expert but some things that could add are more density on the mega tree, finish up all those bushes in front, and maybe some up lighting on the house? Your display look fantastic keep at it! I love it! I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but a couple easy things to do is add some floods for up lighting on the house, maybe do all the bushed in front, possibly the top of the roof if you're comfortable up there. Maybe even more density to the mega tree? That fence on the left could be a good opourtunity for something. I really like the way your windows are outlined, very clean, and that wreath is gorgeous! My display is about done, just few little things here and there.
  19. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

Thank you! It's a ton of work but I love it. Yea I probably could. Next year I'm going to focus on more lights and smaller scenes because I am out of storage space. Adding some more for the LOR part of the display. I have no more room to add anything more so time to be creative!
