  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. 20ft mega tree whole project guide

Here's Daryl's video on his Christmas Light Show mega tree. I use a combination of parts between these 2 fine companies to make my 20 footer.. Good luck. https://www.christmaslightshow.com/?target=search&mode=search http://store.3glightingcreations.com/mega-tree-parts/
  2. Oklahoma OKC Mini (Meet and Greet)

But you said there would be food....
  3. How are you powering your display?

Exactly what I did when I was incandescent. However, it's perfect for all LED too. With your 15,000 lights, even if all LED at 15 amps, you still need to break the circuits up so you're hitting multiple GFCI receptacles. Less nuisance tripping. I have a 240volt 40amp time-clock feeding (9) 20amp 1-pole circuits that run to different areas under the eaves; front, sides & back. I also use it to power up year round landscape lighting. Good luck.
  4. Candy Cane Arch

You'll need guy wires as suggested. Minimum 2 on each side. Or buy her a nice winter coat. Either way - good job & looks great!
  5. Help - Lor Sequences

Here's a few 64's to get you going:
  6. Fm Transmitter Troubles

Run the TSO media file through audacity's free software. Then open SE back up and apply the new file. Here's more details: http://www1.lightorama.com/PDF/Audacity_Lame_128KbpsRevA.pdf Good luck.
  7. Replacing A Gfci Outlet

Are you sure the GFCI is bad? Are you sure it's just not tripping because it should? You stated "tripping in the rain". If you have plugs on the ground, lots of wire-frame "tomato cage style" props, C-9 sockets mounted lamp up, and so on - could be it's not time to replace the receptacle. Be careful if you try it. As TED wisely advised - POWER OFF while doing it.
  8. C9 Sockets

One thing to keep in mind is most of the time we're just making extension cords with SPT cord. If you are putting the socket onto the spt cord, you are NOT fused with using a standard vampire plug. 99% of time, no biggie. However, to be safe, I started buying fused vampire plugs for my spt made stringers. Still use the standard ones for my extension cords. Only place I have found the fused plugs in stock is with Action Lighting. Including shipping was only $30 for 24. Cheap insurance. Their web-site wasn't working for ordering, so had to call them. Had them in hand the same week I ordered. Just my thoughts. Action Lighting 1-800-248-0076 Part # 100SPT1PLUGWM-F $9.49 bag of 12 plugs with extra fuses
  9. Tomato Cage Mini-Tree Grounding?

The wire cage is NOT what is tripping the GFCI. It's like castlechristmas is saying, get the plugs up off the ground. Don't tape your connections. Water will get in and can't get out. So when it is dry, you're still tripping. If using incandescent C7 or C9 strings, make sure there is a weep hole in the socket or make sure you mount base up to horizontal. Cuts down on rusting out your sockets too.
  10. Squirrel Attacks- They Love Leds!

All this talk of squirrels and rabbits is making me hungry. If you use an input pup to trigger the channel, they'll be toasty soon... Just saying...
  11. Enhancing Fm Radio Transmitter Distance

Unless you're rural, don't know why you need to broadcast that far. Also, need to check your FCC regulations. Unlicensed operation on the AM and FM radio broadcast bands is permitted for some extremely low powered devices covered under Part 15 of the FCC's rules. On FM frequencies, these devices are limited to an effective service range of approximately 200 feet (61 meters).
  12. So It Begins........

I love the reworking of old stuff too. Thanks.
  13. Another Reason To Keep Decorating!

    Awesome Congrats
  14. So It Begins........

Can't wait to see it in person. Did you make your Merry Christmas sign? If so, do you have plans? If not, remember which store? Online vendor?
  15. Falling Santa Cut Out

    Very cool. Good job.
  16. Mega Tree Base Idea.

I'd be more concerned about the base if I knew how you planned to put your lights on it. I don't see a pulley system. Are you using a ladder or plan to put the lights on before mounting the pole? The extra weight from lights, if putting them on first changes everything. If putting them on after your pole is raised, then no problem. Any of the above methods should be fine. Or even pounding a 4ft piece of 1/2" rebar 2ft into the ground. Slide the pole over. Attach guy wires. Cool pole BTW - Always admire free & find a way to use it.
  17. Lawsuits

In their vehicle? - it's on them. They would/should receive a distracted driving ticket. In my yard? Sue me for bringing Joy to the World with my show? I'd have to find a ruthless lawyer to counter sue for destroying my private property. In the meantime - I'm gonna Light 'em Up.
  18. Need Some Help Picking Lights

Hobby Lobby has LED C-9 strings that work with LOR. I've used them 2 years already without a failure. Download the Hobby Lobby app and just show your phone for 40% off 1 item per day. In no time you'll have enough. Or get another person involved and the qty really adds up fast. They already have them out on shelves now. I've been buying minis for weeks now for my father's house. Just started buying for my son's new house this week. Show time is coming fast. Good luck with whatever you do.
  19. Started!

Don't know if all stores carry the same things all the time, but the display at the store near me has smaller figures this year.
  20. A little over your budget, but a great way to start is Wowlights. http://www.wowlights.com/ProductDetail.asp?Category=20&Product=117
  21. Built For The Wife

Very nice. I'm with Roger - need to learn how to do wireframes. Good work.
  22. It will be interesting to view for sure. The chasing scenes may just look like it's spinning all the time - but hey - that may look really cool too. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
  23. Started!

Got these figurines at Hobby Lobby. Spray with 2 or 3 light coats of clear sealant before using outside. Be sure to wipe them clean and dry them before storing after Christmas. 3 years and still looking great. The star is mounted on 1-1/2" sch40 PVC painted black. I used weather treated boards for the stable, so no staining required. Assembled with deck screws so can un-assemble and store by the fence in just a few minutes with the cordless drill. Good luck with your project too.
  24. Video-Recording Your Display

Jeff, Thanks for the kind words. I have to be honest though. I'm in my 3rd year with LOR and I'm just now trying to sequence a few songs on my own. Everything prior has been WowLights sequences. This year's show will still be filled with WowLights as well, but I hope to have 2 or 3 of my own finished in time. Next year - adding some CCR / CCD to the show. Just no time left this year.... Daniel
  25. Video-Recording Your Display

MikeZ - awesome video and awesome show. Congratulations!
