  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. Plywood Santa

I just was given this vintage plywood cut out of Santa holding a lantern. The lantern does have a light in it. The gentlemen told me he made this from a pattern back in the 70's. He does not remember where he got the pattern from. It needs to be repainted. I was wondering if anybody has this pattern or knows were I might find one. If I can't find a pattern I guess I will just take lots of pictures and try to repaint it that way. I am not artistic at all, I have trouble drawing stick people. Any information would be appreciated Thanks Tom
  2. Plywood Santa

I will try everything I can to keep the original artwork. I really like this piece. I think I will try to clear coat him after taking a lot of pictures. I will look into this. I forgot to mention he is 6 feet to the top of the lantern and 38 inches at the widest point. Tom
  3. Plywood Santa

The cheesy lights were the first thing to go. There is a C9 bulb inside the back of the lantern, but the socket is disintegrating. I do like the patina look, and the plywood is actually in really good shape. I think I might just clear coat him to protect him more. I like the Idea of an led spotlight, but not sure if it would take away the light in the lantern. The next nice day I am going to take a lot of pictures and dig out my old 36 inch printer and see if I can make a pattern. I thank you all for your suggestions. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Tom

  5. Fading failure

I am having the same problem with one of my Gen 3 controllers, early model. 2 channels won't fade right. C9 snubber was not enough to get them to fade so I used 50 ct incan strings on the 2 problem channels for them to fade. Did a firmware update and reset the board which did nothing for the problem. I think it is time to replace the triacs on those channels. Tom

  8. Could someone help me identify icicle lights?

Well, you could just knock on their door and ask them where they got them. That is what I do when I find something I need more info on. Generally most people I have talked to were pretty nice about it. Tom
