  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. It's neat that you fix things differently. Rather than putting in another stock motor and new plastic gears (like I do) you put in servos. I recently fully restored a snowflake spinning Frosty the snowman and I put in new gears in the hat, new gear driven mechanisim (not belt driven anymore) and new gears in the spinning arm and a new belt in the hips and hat arm... Perfect. For 3.99, not bad!
  2. Gemmy is a pretty good company... if you know how to fix their stuff if it breaks. they were creative back in the day (not so much now) their inflatables are pretty good and last a long time.
  3. Do you have any info on these?

They are at a local thrift store and I'm wondering if I should buy them.
  4. Never thought I would be posting this!

Well, here is a short video from my porch of the snow on the inflatables. The snow is very heavy and even weighted down my 16 ft toy soldier and a lot of other tall ones. IMG_8156.MOV
  5. Never thought I would be posting this!

We are getting 6-8 inches of snow over the three inches we already have by tomorrow! Now I'm going to have to shake off all the snow off of them tomorrow so that they stand up.
  6. Yes it's a resistor/transistor/capacitor that is blown out on the board. I hope that company can restore it. Nice Corvette! Not my preferred Corvette but it's still nice! I like the 63 split window.
  7. Do you have any info on these?

    Ok thanks for the info!
  8. Do you have any info on these?

Here is pretty much the only company who makes blow molds currently, wich is Gemmy. I like the molds are pretty nice but they are too pricey and they also have everyone's favorite thing on blow molds... Glitter!
  9. Trivia of Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story

Flick What was Ralphie called when he was standing on the stairs with the pink bunny suit on?
  10. Why no goofy Donald or daisy inflatables

I don't think they make those because they aren't ad poupular as Mickey and Minnie are. The inflatables are made based off of what the stores want. I found one with all the characters but it's one big scene and it's quite hard to come by.
  11. Picked these up today. Any info?

The Santa is by General Foam or Empire and the candle is by General Foam or Empire too. Look on the bottom and the back to see the logo of the company who made them. The santa is very common and the candle is still in production. But not much longer as General Foam is closing its doors this year. I just came across this santa and two Dapol candles. I only got the candles. The Santa pictured is a general foam.
  12. Never thought I would be posting this!

Wow! That's a lot of snow! It's going to snow tomorrow and Sunday, Monday night to Wednesday. We are getting 1-3 inches. I see a few inflatables that I have in this picture.
  13. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

Thanks! They do like it! There was this truck that slowed down and stopped. He got out of the truck and I said "Uh Oh." Then he got out his phone and took some pictures. Then he got back in his truck and drove off. The first day I had 11 up and there were 4 cars that took pictures and 5 other cars slowed down. Last year it looked really tacky at night and this year you can actually make out what the inflatables are at night. Plus the lights gives you something else to look at and they add an "eye catcher" at night. You can see it a little ways down the road too.
  14. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

My display consists of 78 inflatables, about 3,700 lights and a few blow molds. I spent 5 days putting it up with no help at all. I have a variety of things out like lights, inflatables, blow molds, and those pre lit characters.
  15. Do you have any info on these?

Thanks! I think they look good too!
  16. Do you have any info on these?

I won't now. I got the glitter off and they look just fine the way they are! I think it's the glitter that made me want to paint them... The glitter is now gone! I put goo gone on a paper towel and wiped it over the glitter. Then I dried it with another paper towel. Then I scratched it off with my fingernail. All finished! I'm pretty happy with them! $40.00 well spent!
  17. Questioning the age of this blow mold

The vendor put on the price tag of this Santa that it was made in 1968 when it was made from 2002 to 2007.
  18. Do you have any info on these?

Yup! Thanks! I want to get a Mrs. Claus but I don't really want the one at menards. I already have a Santa already
  19. Do you have any info on these?

Ok thanks for the information! Now I know who made all my blow molds! The store is called Wizard of Odds. It is where people have their stands in the store where they sell their things but they aren't there. The cashiers at the store take the money and give it to them. The candles were 40 for the set 20 a piece. The Santa had a crack on the base about 2 centimeters and I already have a Santa so I passed on it.
  20. what kind of lights do I need?

    A 24 watt or a 40 watt bulb
  21. Do you have any info on these?

Thanks Mel! Thanks Allen! Thanks! I looked on the back of my snowman and it had the Empire logo on it. Does that mean it's by Empire or does the General Foam snowman still have the logo on it?
  22. Do you have any info on these?

Ok I'll try that tomorrow. Hopefully I will get some 40 watt bulbs and extension cords for my other three.
  23. Do you have any info on these?

I got them! I didn't get the Santa because it was cracked on the back.
  24. Do you have any info on these?

Ok. No problem. the previous owners put glitter on the Noel and the wax drippings and now all the glitter has fallen off. Can I get the remaining glitter off with out scratching the plastic?
  25. Do you have any info on these?

Ok I might paint them. Do you think I should?
