  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

Took a 360 video. You can drag the screen around to see different areas of the show.
  2. wow, that's pretty awesome
  3. 50 ft Merry Christmas Sign

I like it. I might steal this idea for next year. One thing you will want to purchase to save your hands from cuts, is a set of flush cutting pliers to cut off those sharp ends on the zip ties.

stupid onions! why am I cutting onions?
  5. thinking of getting LOR but nervous

I recommend www.wowlights.com for people trying to get a start with LOR. They have packages set up that include musical sequence files. I started with a 16 channel package with Santa face and built my light show from that.
  6. Move Channels In Light O Rama

you need to open a sequence, edit the configuration. then export the channel configuration. Then open your other sequence files and import the channel configuration. then save each file.

    don't hurt your arm there
  8. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

yeah, I'm not sure why Aputernut felt it was necessary to insult other people's tastes.
  9. SPT-W Wire

I don't think anyone can count on finding deals at garage sales when it comes to planning the power cabling for their light shows.
  10. SPT-W Wire

I'm not sure that I would use the word "always". There are plenty of times that SPT1/2 is more than enough. At some point you are just throwing away money using 10/12 gauge cords, when 18 gauge is plenty for the load. Also, the time saved using vampire plugs on SPT cable is a real plus.

This is kind of along the same lines as this topic. On Friday night I ran the light show for the first time, but I forgot to plug in the inflatable teddy bear. I had stole the cord to charge my drill battery that day. I was out shopping when I decided to peek in on my security cameras to make sure everything was lit up. I noticed a guy walk into my yard, then mess with the teddy bear. I was freaking out for a second thinking he was about to steal it. Turns out that he was trying to plug it in for his kids. He gave up after a minute. Dude has some nerve to walk into someone's yard like that. I''m glad he didn't trip over anything, considering there are lights covering much of the ground.
  12. Fast way to add reindeer to the roof

would you happen to have any photos of that setup?
  13. rs485 LOR & Actidongle HC DMX

I use two of the USB/RS485 adapters that come with the LOR controllers in this exact configuration. You just need to configure one of them as DMX in the LOR network setup.

I haven't tried to dim them. I just set them on/off. They blink immediately. No warm up time. I will try dimming them tomorrow and see what they do.
