Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  4. Individual tracks are still $.99, so invest the $3 and get them all!
  5. I'm not sure what angers me more: Fox news NOT reporting the real issue - This is not about a Christmas Display, but about improperly installed outlets on an easement which is not permitted by the codes at the location. -or- The people who believe Fox news without checking the facts themselves. The only reason this gets the press is because it's a hot-button topic (Christians VS local govt). If this were the summer time, the display was not up, and the person got a summons for improperly installed outlets on an easement, does this even get 1/1000 of a second of press? Nope. I'm sorry but if the rule is on the books, and the person broke the rule, then the person needs to suffer the consequences. It is also perfectly within the rights of the Grinchy neighbor to use the code as he has done. Rules are rules, and they are not suspended just because it's a Christmas display. The only thing the display can do is play by those rules, and be obliged to now ensure the Grinch plays by them as well - the sword cuts BOTH ways . Hopefully one day all of us will realize that our displays can be disruptive and not everyone will like them - no mater how much cheer we spread.

If it doesn't have any rights management, all you have to do is copy the file (maybe to a USB stick)....
  8. MIke, Thanks for the information, I was wondering if I can use AL light contorllers with another controllers like light o rama with their software and control the lights I have? Shawn

  9. I use both 16AWG and 18AWG SPT2. The SPT2 plugs will work on both. The 16 is a little tighter, but it's no problem. The only thing I wouldn't do is use SPT1 plugs on SPT2 wire or vise-versa. The teeth are set at the wrong distances. More info: Custom extension cords & C7/C9 Stringers
  10. My suggestions: http://www.landolights.com/main/content/category/6/22/39/ There are 3 articles there, 2 on Megatrees (and animating them), 1 on pole trees.
  11. This message is not to my liking... You know.... If the mods here need to protect the users from the word HORRIBLE (which I previously used to describe some of the functionality here and subsequently changed by one of them to 'not to my liking'), you would think they would be ALL over this obvious signature spam, deleting it and the user.
  12. Spammer..... Your 3 messages bear this out.

    Vandals got me

Are you *SURE* they were vandals and not critters (bunnies/squirrels) that bit through them? Critters chewing on wires looks EXACTLY like someone cut them with a wirecutter. In all these years of people thinking a vandal cut their wires, it has always turned out to be a critter. And think about it: To carry a set of tools takes thought - something that a vandal usually doesn't do in advance. It's easier to pull/tear/stomp than it is to remember to grab cutters, go looking for displays, cut wires. http://forums.planetchristmas.com/showthread.php/37911-Vandals-strike...for-the-4th-time.?p=411659#post411659
  14. Here is my article on Custom extension cords & C7/C9 Stringers. It answers many of your questions...
  15. My suggestions on sequencing and channel layouts for Megatrees. Read both articles, since there is a little in both of them that applies to you: A Simple Method to Build a Megatree Animating Your Megatree
