Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. Hey Bill, Voted for ya, and posted a link on my Facebook for friend to vote too...
  2. Hi David, saw you have a birthday today. Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! How many DECADES does that make!!!LOL Cliff

  3. I'm glade I was able to help, you all out in any way I could... I was at a Walmarts about an hour from my house when I over heard two employees talking about the 75% off sale happening that night, so I ran and grab a cart and started filling it up. At midnight (EST) all prices were still at 50%... At 1am all prices were back to their "original", so all prices would come up showing the new 75% off price, little scary to see that on the u-scan... 2:20am almost everything showing new marked down price... Was able to have a manager come over and adjust one item for me, she knew I was there from 11:30pm and still had an hour ride to get home. Again, I'm glade to help out in anyway I can.
  4. Walmart is NOW at 75% off ALL Christmas stuff. They started at 1am this morning.
  5. Garden Ridge has 6ft twig tree, but I've only seen them with muti color only....
  6. Do you think an Incandescent Mini Clear, and a 5mm LED Warm White, besides the shape ( in some cases ) could pass for one another in a display? Trying to get back into doing animated Christmas displays again, and looking into getting some LEDs... I still have some R,G,B half wave from 07 (around 24 of each)... As for the colors I plan on working with, would be the standard Green, Red, White.. I will need to get more Red, and Green but for White, I'm wanting to stay with the color of an incandescent clear mini which from my understanding would be consider a Warm White in an LED... I do have a lot of incandescent clear minis, so could I just use my incandescent minis with the Red, and Green LEDs and get the same effect as if there where Warm White LEDs? If the look would be some what the same, I could live with that for now, and save a lot of money.... Do you think it could work out, OK?

    Goc Deals

Big Red Fire Truck in Ohio.... Wouldn't you be the talk of the town...lol http://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemID=7895&acctID=63
  8. Windows Internet Explorer is "very" relaxed on websites HTML protocols, as FireFox, Chrome are "very" stricked about HTML protocols... Dot all your I's, and cross all your T's, type of deal, or it see it as a corrupted website and will only show what it recognizes...
  9. Thanks Paul for the relpy... Would there happen to be any videos of the C9's in action by any chance?
  10. If this has already been answered then I'm sorry, I missed it... But are the "RETRO FIT LED BULBS C-9 Faceted E17 base", a true dimmable bulb.. I'm looking for a dimmable C9 that will fade from 100% to 0% and back to 100% "SMOOTHLY" over a 10 sec time frame... Not one when you fade it down from 100%, then when it gets to 35% the voltage drops to 0%, or you do a slow fade up and the bulb kicks in at 35%... Do you have any videos of the "retro" bulbs in action? Thanks,
  11. Target 50% off right now. Hit Beechmount & Milford and got all the 17" led snow flakes they had. Beechmount had way more LEDs then Milford.

    Lowes

I'm very surprise to see anybody getting good deals on power cords, like some have. With the price of copper the way it keeps going up.

    Lowes

    Lowes

Until the economy gets back in the groove like 06-07, and the unemployment levels drop like it was in 2006. I wouldn't plan to see shelves over flowing with extra Christmas like again for awhile. And the chance of getting 250 boxes of Christmas lights @ 90% off ( Like I did in 07 ) won't be seen for a long time..
  15. I'm seeing only 30% off on lights at the Florence KY., Beechmont OH., and Milford OH. Stores. look like they have a fair amount of LED lights.
