  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. Pleasant Suprise

This year seemed like I had nothing but problems with my light show. Lights would burnout; whole strings would quit, and not the strings that are easy to get to but the ones that are more difficult to get to. We had computer problems; transmitter problems and wind problems. It got to the point that it wasn't even fun anymore and I had about decided to take next year off. Then last week a little girl came to the door, handed my wife a paper and ran off without saying anything. The note said "thank you for putting up your lights. They are beautiful." Signed Alex; Troop 20. Really made us feel good. Then this week a Christmas card showed up in our mailbox. No address or return address. The card said; "Dear neighbor; Thank you for your light display. It really brightened up our Christmas." No name or anything. We have no idea who sent it. But the real shocker was that there was a $25.00 gift certificate enclosed. It made all the problems we had worth it and I guess we are going to have to do it again next year.
  2. Santa Tracking

I've looked all over the web and couldn't find anything. Hoping some might have some ideas.
  3. Does anyone know where I can get some audio clips of NORAD santa tracking. I'd like to put some reports of Santa's location between songs.
  4. Projector Display

What kind of projector are you using?
  5. Projector Bulbs

I set it up again night before last and everything worked perfect. I don't know what I did, but it worked. Last night the show started up and no projector. I disconnected from the computer and connected back to my DVD player and the video played perfectly. I worked all day trying to get a projected picture from the computer, but to no avail. Now I've got the DVD player playing Virtual Santa again but I still can't use Santa Symphonies. This is really starting to get Frustrating.
  6. Projector Bulbs

Yea, I tried it and the picture is still bad. I tried putting a new bulb but the picture didn't change. It did develop a black spot in the center indicating overheating (so I've been told), so I put the old bulb back in. That fixed the overheating problem but I don't know why. So now I'm back at square one. I figure it has to be a problem with the projector, I just can't figure out why or what is different from last year.
  7. Projector Bulbs

Thanks Jerry. I don't know yet what most of that means; but it gives me a starting place to do some more research....Thanks!
  8. Projector Bulbs

OK, I replaced the bulb with no difference and now I'm stumped. Last year I used the Virtual Santa and played it on a DVD player, through a video projector onto a screen in the window. It looked great. This year I added the Santa Symphonies. I downloaded both into Windows Movie Maker; used the movie to make a video and downloaded these into LOR so I could control the lights, music and video with the LOR. I'm Running the video straight from my computer to my projector instead of through a DVD player. Now the picture is terrible. Am I doing something wrong or does what I'm trying to do not going to work?
  9. I'm setting up my Virtual Santa and I can't get a clear sharp picture. This is my third year using the VS and before I had a bright, clear, sharp picture. this year the picture seems dim. Do projector bulbs get dim with age? The Projector is a Sharper Image, model no. EC-PJ10. I'm not sure what the lumens rating is. The projector always worked great before and I'm at a loss as to why it is so dim now.
  10. Focusing More On Christmas This Year

I put a sheet on my mini trees and a jack-o-lantern with the bottom cut on top. Instant ghosts.
  11. I'm adding video to my display this year. I already have several musical sequences done and I'm trying to add video to them. Is there a way this can be done?
  12. Virtual Santa

I used it for the first time this year too. No audio, just video. I was kinda disappointed at first because it didn't show up as well as I had hoped because of all the other lights on the house. But, I got alot of comments on it and people seemed to really like it.
  13. Arch Sleeves

I used clear lights on white wire on all my arches. You really can't tell any difference at night, but I think the white looks better during the day.
  14. Let there be peace in PC.

I'm sorry, but I think you just did.
  15. Let there be peace in PC.

I'm sorry, but when I posted that yesterday I noticed the **** but didn't occur to me at the time why it was there. Guess I just don't have my mind deep enough in the gutter.
