  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. Fading failure

For the second consecutive season I've had a problem with two mini trees(some of the smallest components in my show)--they will not fade smoothly even though I have them connected to C9 snubbers. The very same unit and channels have been used for both years,so I'm thinking I have a triac problem. What says the mob?
  2. Fading failure

No,but these are pro grade,full-wave LEDS operating on Gen 3 controllers.
  3. Commercial shoot?

Weird offering of the day: we just had someone from a local Nissan dealership stop by and ask if they could shoot a Christmas themed commercial in front of our house this Monday. Has anyone else been approached?
  4. Commercial shoot?

This is from a local Nissan dealership;they're here now filming.
  5. Merry Christmas Virginia

Suddenly,I feel like I'm the only Southside member to continue to run the show until New Years. Is anyone still operational?
  6. State-wide Display Map

I've been hoping to do exactly that,Salamber. Unfortunately,I don't have the computer skills to do so.
  7. Silent site?

Wow! The silence on the Virginia page is deafening.
  8. Silent site?

Thanx Salamber! I was beginning to think no one picked-up on the pun. Oops! And thanx to Gecko2012 I'll add this: the knowledge regarding Christmas lighting that I've gained on PC is huge. I only wish I knew of PC before I caught the fever;I could have saved myself a lot of time and Tylenol!
  9. roof light frame

Question for the mob: this year,in an attempt to save time, I attached my C9s to pvc with zip ties.It looked great at first, but then the sun warmed-up the ties and now the bulbs are falling over. Has anyone else dealt with this problem and what was your solution?
  10. Viewing Public Say the Darndest Things

Ditto to almost every comment on here as to the funny stuff people say about our show. One evening,as I was outside talking to my neighbors, one of them suddenly looked at me with a surprised look and asked who was in the window and dressed as Santa--they assumed it was me--every night!
  11. LOR and Cat5

Ok,I have a big problem with my controllers--for the second time this season. Twice I've had to replace CAT5 ,with brand new cables--both in the exact same box and position. That suggests to me that the problem is with the RJ45 jack in the Showtime controller(3rd Generation) What says the mob?
  12. LOR and Cat5

No--these are manufactured cables. If corrosion is responsible--then what's the fix?
  13. ISO C7 retros

Does anyone in the 757 have any C7 retrofit bulbs in cool white? I am in need of about a dozen. I have a supply of colored bulbs(LED) that I would be willing to trade or simply buy your cool whites.
  14. ISO C7 retros

The only color that I have an abundance of is purple. But,I do have a lot of those and am willing to sell some.
  15. Who else is behind schedule!?

Yep--this danged rain is killing my schedule!
  16. Defective lights

I have four strings of C6,70 ct. LEDs,purchased from CDI--all of which half of the string doesn't light---the first half and nearest the male plug. Strange, but true. Has anyone had any success repairing strings of non-replaceable bulbs?
  17. SPT 1 or 2

I find myself with plenty of SPT1 and not enough SPT2. Can I safely use SPT1 extension cords with LED lights built with SPT2? There would be only one, short light string per channel/cord,btw.
  18. Display for sale

Sorry to hear that you have to quit this madness. Do you have prices set for the Hamberger pieces?
  19. C7 stringers

Are there any vendors that sell C7 stringers with 6" spacing(or less), in something less than 500' spools?
  20. roof light frame

Sometime ago, a member posted pics of a roof-lights frame made with Sch.40 and some type of three-way connector. The frame ran along all four sides;but, the ridge line sat off the deck a little thanks to the connectors. I've been to the big-box stores and they don't carry this type of connector. Can anyone fill-in the blanks here?
  21. New Ownership Creative Displays Inc.

Welcome to our Christmas Crazies Club.
  22. C7 stringers

Does anyone sell C7 stringers with 4 to 6 inch spacing?
  23. Pvc frame for lights

Sometime ago a member posted pics of his project which was pvc built and served as a frame for placing lights on the roof and keeping them straight. Does anyone here know where to find the post?
  24. Pvc frame for lights

Thanx for the replies--that's a great solution. But, the pics I saw were of pvc basically outlining the upper roof--top,bottom and sides. The upper section was slightly elevated off the ridge, but I can not recall how this was done.
  25. Pvc frame for lights

    Thanx,I'll have a look.
