  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

So i'm thinking about getting the Pearl GFP Blow mold nativity set from Menards because it's on sale. I'm not big on plain white blow molds so i'm thinking about giving it a custom paint job. What do you think?

  6. A find I wasn't expecting.

I went to the local consignment shop just to see what was there. Most of the booths were the usual with some small indoor Christmas items. turned the corner and what to my wondering eyes did appear, these two Empire red candles with the pointsetta design. The price was in my budget so I brought them home. They have 1969 molded into them near the logo, not sure if its the year or part number.
  7. Toy Soldier blow mold placement

Curious where all you guys place your toy soldiers in your display. Every year I seem to find nice spots around the yard for all my other blowmolds but the few toy soldiers I have seem to be harder to place .... maybe because they are small. I've seen people putting them around the perimeter of their yards with stake lights and such. But where else are good spots ?

  9. ALF? Unmarked Choir Children

Anyone have a manufacturer on these? I know that Wiken made two sizes of caroler for mold craft, a small set on his own, and that mold craft had two more sizes after he left. I also know ALF made two caroler sizes large size and life size carolers. In the early 50's they had a set of short choir children. I know when a company produced one size at any time a second size usually accompanied it. The early ALF set has no "large size" accompaniment that I know of. Are these that "lost" set? These choir children are molded rubber and no illumimated at all. The choir boy has a 5' tall organ of the same material he sits at and the girl has a male counterpart almost identical except for the head. They look ALF but have no markings, and ALF, or any company at the time for that matter, usually marked their molds. Any ideas?
  10. Blow Mold Catalog

Has anyone else on the site purchased the blow mold catalog guide on CD format from blow-molded.com? If so, worth the small investment? Thanks!!! Kelly
  11. Nativity From Auction Last Night

Picked these up at auction last night. They are in great shape and went for fair price so I snagged them. I already have nativity pieces but what the heck? I had to drive the backroads for an hour to get to the place but it worked out!
  12. Irwin Plastics Santa

I'm guessing the Irwin Santa is probably one of the rarest blow molds out there since they've only made the one mold (In 3 known sizes). Is there any other info available about Irwin or other molds they made ? I've also heard that Noma may have distributed their molds. These were the only photos I was able to find of all three sizes (Photo credits go to Dominic Siravo)
  13. Anyone selling these?

Hey all...newbie here. Came across this site when looking for these specific blowmolds. They are Noel candles made by Empire. I think they are from around the 60s. They have gold at the bottom and a yellow and orange flame. Two would be ideal but even one would make me happy. Thanks for looking and let me know. I am in Indiana by Chicago.
  14. Who Manufactured These Candles...

Does anyone know who manufactured these candles...
  15. blow mold repaint rookie

I picked up a truck load of blow mold (approx 18) local and many of them could use a new paint job.......not to mention we got snow last and the cabin fever has set in. What is the choice of paint for the pros on here that repaint a good bit? I have a few pics but not of everything and you can see much of the repaint is touch up only. ..................
  16. any info from the experts

found a local seller with this little odd ball, any info on him? he is in poor condition and in need of an upgrade paint job....possible purchase in the 20 to 30 buck area....
  17. Blow mold value and age

Would you blow mold experts know the age and value of this Santa. They say he is 5ft tall. Made by Empire.
  18. Unknown Mold

  21. Anyone have any replacement reflectors for the old style GP Designs/General Plastics blow-mold ornaments or know where I could get a few? I asked Rick at GP Designs and they don’t have any left. I only need a few.
  22. My Latest Finds

New to this site but thought you folks would like this my latest find. A number of lawn ornaments from a large sale last sat. Included was Beco Policeman in box and 2 jointed elves. My one question is how much is a policeman worth? More pictures to follow.
  23. Newbie Michele (Blow Mold addict) Intro

Good morning y'all! I have been lurking here for a few days and have finally found the time to introduce myself. From what I have found here so far I am super excited. A little about me: ** I gravitate toward mid century/retro decorations, of course blow molds are at the top of my list. I think the reason for my preferences is the memories of Christmas with my Grandparents on my father's side who did Christmas in a very big fancy way. I remember all my presents came with some sort of special ornament or plastic flower or little bird with feathers on them. (Just found some similar birds at a garden and florist shop I use....discounts have begun). I will post photos as soon as I figure out how. ** My husband and I are both prior service Army, and met in Iraq back in early 2003 (whole separate story). I usually have a military theme Christmas tree. We just moved to a new house and when the tree went up I began hauling out the boxes of ornaments. Unfortunately I discovered I am missing the box with all the military ornaments I've collected from all over the world for the past 15 years. Of course the box with the generic filler ornaments are all accounted for. I haven't been able to hang an ornament yet. The tree is still beautiful with just the lights and the star. I get super attached to my special treasures. ** I have just begun collecting blow molds even though I have been contemplating for the past few (wish I had started back then when prices were lower)! So far I have the new Santa and snowman that Lowes started selling this year, 10 x 30" black hat toy soldiers, 11 x 30" white hat toy soldiers, a short squatty red hatted soldier with yellow rifle and a 38" black hat nutcracker soldier, and two Poloron candles with the pinecone decoration. ** My main passion is outside decorating for Christmas. We have double layer net lights across the front flower beds with the bottom layer flashing. C9 multi color opaque lights on the small trees at the corners of the front beds. Red C9 opaque on the large palm trees flanking the front door (1 strand each, must buy taller ladder)! ** Soldiers are going out today. I plan to create platoons by hat color. ** Most exciting is I found and purchased what I believe is a vintage Santa in his sleigh with one Poloron reindeer. I haven't been able to identify the manufacturer so I will post a picture for the experts. Of course now I'm on the hunt for 7 more Poloron reindeer ugh. i guess I had a lot to say lol...I love Christmas and I'm so happy I found this site. Merry Christmas!!!!!
  24. Hi! I just bought 2 Empire Choir blow molds yesterday, a boy and girl for $20. (good deal) I've noticed when they light up, the heads don't light up very well. Is there anyway to achieve this? I figure it's a common problem so I thought maybe there's a solution.
  25. Converting Blow Molds to LEDs

I'm trying to convert as much of my display from incan's to LED. I bought LED C7 stringers and quite a few mini's. I also have a Santa, and two reindeer blow molds that I want to put some LED's in. For those of you that have replaced the incan'sC7's with LED's, how where the results? I've seen a few clear LED C7's at Lowe's, and was wondering if its worth the $4 ea. or so to replace them.
