  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

My favorite Christmas story

About my display

  1. I am recently retired from the military and now have time to truly decorate how I want for Christmas. One of the items I want to display is a motorized ferris wheel. I have a good idea on how to build it, however, I have no idea how to light it. Are there remote lights that I can attach and set on a timer? Am I just going to have to settle for battery operated lights and attach the battery pack to the wheel? Any help would be great. I should point out I know enough about electricity to make me dangerous.
  2. Fixing string of led lights

I have 2 strings of lights from Walmart that I can't figure out how to fix. They are 225 ct multi color minis. One section prob 30 or 40 lights is out but when I looked more closely they are actually very very dim. I have to cup my hand around to see the light. I have checked and replaced all lights and wires but cant seem to find the issue. I have never seen this issue before where they are still technically on. Anyone have any suggestions
  3. Please help me! So my husband has been doing a lighted display for a few years now, and I am trying to help and join him in this. Anyways, he is currently using Light O Rama and has a few RGB strips. Onto the help part. I have seen the virtual Santa, and it gave me an idea. I want to do something similar to that on our front door, but we have lots of problems with it. At the beginning of our show, we have a part where the lights go out, and some workers are trying o fix it, and I figured I would do something with the minions. Then when the Let it go sequins goes, maybe do something from the movie on that. So, I am asking for your opinion. What is the best thing to use for a projection type system? Here is my problem. I live in Grand Rapids, MI, and last year, a couple times, our temperature got down to -15F and numerous feet of show! That being said, I don't know of a projector that you can use outside in those conditions. I thought about a rear projector, but the problem with that, is I would have to leave my front door open, and project it onto my storm door. This will allow cold air to pass through into my house (horrible on my gas/heating bill). Also, from the front door back, I only have about 5ft of space to put anything before I hit a wall. So I am wondering if there is another option that I am not aware of? I have looked into LED screens, but I do not have $10,000.00+ to put into something along those lines. My husband is a electrician, so I am not too worried about hooking things up. I wish there was a "curtain" of some type that would just hang down and have a display, without the HIGH price tags. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!
