  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

About my display

  1. Hello everyone. I was wondering if any of you might be able to help me in my endeavor to expand my smaller sized nativity display. I already know where I can get some correctly sized angels, extra Shepherds and Josephs to stand in for shepherds, but what I would really like is to add a camel for my three Magi. But I am almost 100% certain that no company has ever produced a blow mold camel to go with this size nativity. Most of the figures are around 18" tall ( and a couple around 23") so just adding in the camel for the medium sized nativity you see around most places would look kinda off. As you can see by someone else display in one of the attached images. So would any of you know of a camel from any source that I might be able to use? Maybe not even a blow mold, but perhaps something I could make match the other figures through some creativity. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
  2. Nativity From Auction Last Night

Picked these up at auction last night. They are in great shape and went for fair price so I snagged them. I already have nativity pieces but what the heck? I had to drive the backroads for an hour to get to the place but it worked out!
  3. I am restoring a vintage Empire nativity set. The cleaning and painting has gone well - I mixed acrylic paints with a bit of Mod Podge and the paint remains translucent. However, a couple of the "gemstones" are missing from the Three Wise Men's rings and gifts. The 2 remaining resemble a golf tee with a domed faceted jewel on top. Does anybody know where I might find some of these? They are sort of like a golf tee or the little "Lite Brite" pegs. I will attach a picture.
  4. Empire 12 piece nativity

For sale: Empire 12 piece nativity in good condition. $200 plus shipping and Paypal fees. Can deliver to Chicago Christmas Expo to save the cost of shipping. This was donated to our church, but they won't be displaying it and I've been asked to sell it for the church.
  5. Empire Nativity Blow mold complete set for sale

Hello everybody. I have a complete Empire blow mold nativity set. Still in great condition. Have been stored in my shed for the last 8 years and not used. My display has gone in a different direction and I don't have room to put it out anymore. The only damage is one leg of the manger is broken. I still have the part and prop it up under it and it holds up just fine. If anybody is interested I am in Orange County CA. Contac me with any questions.
