  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  1. PAY FOR HELP!!!!!

WILLING TO PAY FOR HELP I am looking to get into RGB Pixels this year after using LOR last season. My plan is to outline my house, windows, mega tree, and 3-4 arches. I want to use the ribbon lights for the outline. I know the sequencing is going to be very time consuming so learning the startup and basics of Xlights is where I need help so I can focus most of my time on sequencing. I know there is a lot of videos on youtube, which I found a lot are tutorials from older software versions which leaves me a bit lost at times. Digging through the forum can be a bit time consuming as well and info is all over the place. I am willing to pay an experienced person to help me get going on Xlights. I would be willing to pay an hourly rate or a flat rate. Name your price if you are willing to help for some cash.
  2. Moving! Any tips?

We are moving into a new house next week! Yay and YIKES! Any advice from my fellow smart light guys?? Should I get to work rebuilding my smart light strings first or re-programming? I think us synchronized Christmas Lights people should stick to moving in the early spring so Thanksgiving isn't looming over us Here is my display from last year. Smart lights are all green. Some static lights are off. Here is our new house. I'm really bumming that the garage sticks out so much. We almost didn't get the home because of the impact on my Christmas lights hobby. The positives out weighed the negatives though. Plus, the view in this pic is mostly visible for a few blocks because of the location.
  3. More Moving Head Help

Hey all! Im new to this site but it looks like a great place to get information about christmas light help. First, I would like to purchase some moving head lights. The only thing is that 1, I do not know what brand is best, what brand is the cheapest, and what wattage would be good to set a decent beam into the air. Now, I live in san leandro, Ca so i have a few airports around me but if i manage to keep them out of the paths of the planes or possibly the wattage low enough, then I should be fine. But overall i just dont know where i can buy very very chep heads along with domes for them to keep them safe. Any answers will help. Thanks! (If the orders can possibly come in bulk like 4 or 5 lights in one shipment that that would be great too) Thanks all again! -Gordon

  8. I have received numerous requests to purchase my Let It Go sequence so I wanted to offer the same price for all. I will accept payment via PayPal. This is a great way to see how layering effects can be used and make them your own. I will also include a diagram of the layout to make importing the files much easier. See video below: All proceeds will go towards more lights! ;-) http://screencast.com/t/NEEFCu5xw Ron

  10. 24ft RGB Matrix 21x100

12v 30/10 strips, sw2811 using an Alphapix controller from Holidaycoro.com . Xlights to run it
  11. My brothers, a short story. I have built a matrix using strips of 12v 30/10 ws2811 and one alphapix 16. The matrix is 21x100 or about 7 ft tall and 24 ft long. There are 9 universes all have 252 pixels in them except the last one which only has 84. for a total of 2100 pixels or 6300 RGB. I am using a 1500 watt gold rated computer power supply that has 6 PCI express outputs. Each outputs has a rating of 30amps continuous. I have injected power on every 3rd strip. the number 1,13,25,37,49,61,73,85,97 universes power and data cable go back to the controller. When I power everything up and use the test built into the controller every light, strip and pixel works great. When I test in xlights 4.2.1.6 I get some universes that don't come on, some pixels are slow even colors that are not part of the test pattern. The Alphapix is version 1.03. I will include pictures of the controller setup the xlights setup and one of the power distribution panel I have created. Also the longest cable used to inject power is no more them 30ft and I am using 16/2 for everything going out to the controller.
