  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

Fires and flood....I hope insurance covered that clean-up! I read that this factory in Tarboro was the Empire factory originally. Is that true? Just a thought.......Do you think this closing will be the end of SeasonsLA? Weren't they a huge part of GFP's sales?
  3. After Christmas sales

Well I did run across a deal yesterday. Went into my favorite store Home Depot to find they still had a pallet of white incans 100 ct. I bought 200 boxes at .57 a box. Going to be making some mini trees for the yard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And both building did need work. The Tarboro factory had a couple fires last year and even a flood the summer before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. New Winfield pattern, a helicopter

That's one of the best I've seen yet. Not only does the propeller spin, but the characters wave too.....awesome!👍
  9. Poloron mechanical total restoration

Excellent paint work on those! If you have time, can you post what color red you used on Santa, I'm going to be restoring a Poloron whispering Santa and that red is perfect. Also, what is the flesh tone color? Thank you

The Triangle Business Journal had an interview with the current CEO on August 17, 2017. Here is a clip from the article which is something we have talked about.....
  11. This would be really fun prop to build and cool to display. However storage would be tough, very tough. https://www.thewinfieldcollection.com/product/North-Pole-Express-Helicopter-Plan/New-Woodcraft-Patterns Maybe modify the windows and use Plexiglas, so there could be lighting inside the helicopter. Tks! Joe
  12. ISO GF reindeer antlers

    Look for just the antlers.

Scott, awesome pics. If you only seen the latest pics to hit the floor. A lot of unpainted molds are now hitting the floor. Sample pic below. Unofficial rumor is now sale ends 1/28. Not sure if that’s true. Also, another company did in fact buy the molds for the Halloween pails. Also someone purchased the tree line and pool line. And the current president and CEO is Bill Arnold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here's most of the Popular Mechanics display patterns: http://www.christmascraftsman.com/vintage-popular-mechanics-christmas-ideas.html
  15. best bet is to find a new inflatable with 12 volt adapter and blower and swap the blower out. Walmart sold their Christmas ones for $15. New blowers and adapter usually list for around $30. yard sales and thrift shops sometimes have them real cheap. I have tons of larger blowers for sale SJD B2 etc if anyone needs them

Even the empire plastic was better quality than general foam. Big difference if you put the 2 together and light it up. Really shows on the white in the snowman. Still didn’t deter me from buying their product but it could have been made with much better quality
  17. 2018 Pre Sale is Live!

Well whenever you get a chance is cool, just want to see how they look Thanks!!
  18. 2018 Pre Sale is Live!

I think I'm just going to stop waiting for better weather and shoot some videos indoors. That way you can at least see them side by side.
  19. Merging of new P.C.

No, we didn't get to see the skiers doing their aerial stuff. Would've like to have seen that. We plan on three trips this year, not including several to D.C. The one trip to New York will be to drop off a black lab that we raised for Guidingeyes.org. Hopefully, we can get to Olympic Park during that visit. About the bobsled: we live less than an hour from Cedar Point, about 4 - 1/2 hours from Kings Island. Those fantastic parks have some bad--- roller coasters, and I've ridden them all. But to ride on the bobsled is the ultimate. That is one fast ride. Your teeth will rattle and that ride just goes on and on. Thanks for the tips on Whiteface and Olympic.

Sad to see but unfortunately not all that surprising. Just not enough popularity anymore, I must admit that my ~100 or so molds do take up a lot of my basement which a lot of people just won't dedicate to Christmas decorations , nonetheless I always bought 3-5 new molds a year to try keep GF going. A lot of mold collectors doomed GF with reluctance to accept the paint/quality which IMO was still more than acceptable but obviously not Empire level and refused to buy GF products. Would be nice to still have them around rather than nothing. RIP GF and new molds, will proudly display my GF for next 40 years or so god willing.

That is so great to hear! I am about 10 miles south of Saratoga Springs. Lake Placid is beautiful in the summer and winter. I have always been too chicken to ride the bobsled. Next time you come to upstate NY you have to drive to the summit of Whiteface Mountain. You can only drive part of the way, then you park and take an elevator to the top or you can climb the rest of the way!!! You can also take a gondola ride called The Cloudsplitter to the top of Little Whiteface which is fun. The scenery is breathtaking. I'm glad you have good memories! When you were at the Olympic Park did you get to see the skiers practicing on the ski jump, even when there is no snow and also the skiers who do all that aerial stuff and then land in a big pool? It's a crazy thing to watch!

Picture a twilight zone episode where after everyone is gone all the blow molds come to life....spooky 👀

no kidding, like I said in other posts I'm sure each piece had a story to tell, I would love to hear the news that the plant had been bought and will resume production, this might end some of the Down spirits that have followed the closing

I net that place would be scary at 3am, no lights on...boy, if the walls could talk...it would be eerie to heAR what they would say. Imagine the stories, gossip and employee talk you would hear...it would be interesting to see the blowmold machine(s) in production, just to see a santa pop out in its raw form..to see the employee paint...and what ,through the eyes of QC the, critiqing ...it would be SOO cool ro see the production of these products

  27. I have a "hulk" inflatable in which you have to kick the fan every nght to start it.........
  28. Merging of new P.C.

Donna: I see you are from upstate New York. In 1999 and 2000, a co-worker and I spent a number of weeks at a bus mf'g facility (NovaBus) in Albany/Schnectady as inspectors for buses that Cleveland was purchasing. It was costly to bring us home over weekends when the plant was closed, so we did a lot of exploring. Upstate New York is so darn cool!! At Lake Placid, we rode the bobsled; at Saratoga Springs we attended an impromptu street concert. The music was A-1, and the cans of beer were $1. Can't remember what city, but we found an all-ice-block house and were allowed to walk through it. A lot of very good memories, upstate NY is the best!!!!!!!!!!
