  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

  2. Can you "clone" LOR Controller Boxes

You don't have to copy and paste your channels. Like Qberg said, just set #3 controller to the same ID as # 1 controller. Then they will both to the same thing. Hope that helps , Jim
  3. The Cost of Large Displays

I have to thank the PC people for sp1 and vampire plugs best thing I ever learned about. $125 for a 1000 foot roll. Saved myself a ton of money on cords. It is amazing how I am planning on adding a bunch of RGB in a pixle matrix next year. And at the beginning of the year I was sure that i would never do egg. This was my first year doing lor and i have had a ton of fun and met s9me awsome people
  4. Cado/Union Blowmolds at Menards!

Yeah. It is 24.99. I about pooped my pants when I saw the price for those.
  5. Pics of anyone's display progress

Phase One complete. Don't forget to add your display to www.ChristmasLightFinder.com. linus_2017.MOV
  6. Qberg, Thank you for the reply. So if I'm understanding you--I could simply rename my current Controller #3 to Controller #1--and then I'd have Channels 1-16 available on that box--which I could reposition to another area of the yard. Correct? As for second suggestion--yes, I realize that could "copy and paste" channels 1-16 onto the new controller channels 33-48--but as I mentioned, I don't want to sequence (program) and most purchased sequences are protected. They can't be edited. So that option is out.
  7. Inflatable blower fan wheel replacement?

Can you post a picture of the fan?
  8. New custom inflatable.

You can purchase new fans off of YardInflatables.com
  9. Sealing/waterproofing ribbon ends

Thanks qberg. So you don't clip the female ends off? I thought I read where people clipped them off, then sealed them.
  10. Pics of anyone's display progress

I've never done a Light-O-Rama light show. I only use the Mr Christmas wireless lights and sounds of Christmas. I got it from Home Depot a couple years back lol. But I will eventually do a LOR light show one year
  11. I am pretty sure you can just set the controller ID to the same as your controller for 1-16. You will have 2x controllers hooked up with the same ID and they will mimic each other. Or just add those new channels in sequence editor and copy and paste the 1-16 channels to the new controller channels (33-48)
  12. Oh my no way i know people who has done things like that... Be safe, i had a friend of mine i grew up with his brother just fell 30 foot out of a tree and broke some bones he got lucky he wasn't more hurt
  13. Pics of anyone's display progress

I got 75% done today, ran out of light and I promised the wife I would go to the store. Maybe tomorrow after work. Just need to light a few more bushes, some more garland and connect everything. Already building my post season sale shipping list! Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

  15. My wife and I have a 48 channel LOR system, using three CTB16PC controller boxes. We use an FM transmitter to broadcast the music, and run a single show consisting of about 14 songs, and some nice "Station ID's" for the radio station. We're both busy people. Don't have the time, patience, or desire to do my own sequencing. Our show consists of sequences purchased from LOR and a couple of other folks. The only ones I've done myself are the sequences for the "Station ID's" which are either :30 or :60 seconds long. Most sequences in our library are either 16 or 32 channel shows. Most also are protected, and cannot be edited. That leaves my third controller, channels 33-48 with very little to do. I'd like to "clone" that controller--and make it mirror channels 1-16. Basically, turn that controller box into an extension--so that I can reduce the length and number of extension cords, etc. This doesn't seem to be possible to do--but then again, LOR appears to be created for engineers-so I may be missing something. Can anyone help out a newbie? I'd be forever grateful! Les & Abby Rayburn Alabaster, AL
  16. Grapevine reindeer troubles

Grapevine deer give me fits when they go dark. Over the years I have spent hours replacing mini bulbs on these. I have adopted a new policy when it comes to Grapevine failures. First I remove all of the existing incandescent strings. Then I install new green wire warm white LED strings from Creative Displays. Then I go a couple of steps further and install a string of Pink and a string of Blue LEDs in the belly that I control separately for different effects using LOR.
  17. Visit From FCC or Radio Listening Neighbor

Well i used to work as an 800 mghz radio tech for a Sheriff's Office and i approached the FCC with this same situation about transmitting an FM carrier wave at Christmas . The reply was they know people do this at Christmas time, but generally overlook it unless someone complains and then all they do is tell you to cease what you are transmitting and go about their day.
  18. Roof lights help

So I bought the roof shingle clips for on my roof and I couldn't slide them in the shingles because my shingles are stuck together. Any recommendations? Currently just using duct tape.
  19. Good evening my fellow Christmas crazies. I need a little kick in the tail. I don't like talking about this, I don't even talk about this with my doctor. He's in the dark with what's going on. Last July, the 31st to be exact, I was struck by lightning. It was storming outside and I opened up the metal storm door to look at the rain because it was coming down really hard. When I was holding the metal part of the storm door, lightning struck just to my right and I could feel it going up my arm. My right arm was burning inside and it was numb from my hand to my elbow. My ring finger and pinky went numb and half my hand. Arm was tingly up to my elbow. It itched really bad, like a wound that's healing. My vision was horrible, it was like I had cataracts - like I was looking through a foggy window (back to normal now). I had a horrible metallic taste in my mouth that lasted for about a week. It happened around 5:30 pm and I can kind of remember stuff from later that night, but not much. About a week later I found out I ordered jewelry when it arrived. I don't even remember buying anything. I sent it back (thank goodness, it was ridiculously huge and FAR from believable). When I was in bed, my toes on both feet and my knees felt like they were being electrocuted. Had a few headaches above my right eye. Now I have a rash over my eye on that side over a year later.Monday, Aug 1 2016, it felt like someone was stabbing my left sinus cavity. Hurt like crap. Since the beginning of time (my time), I have not been able to breathe out of my left nostril. As of that Monday morning, I have been able to breathe with no problem whatsoever.I went to the ER that day because my doctor insisted that I go b/c I was having a lot of symptoms that he was not comfortable with. I had a CT scan, EKG, x-rays, blood work and every test came out fine.I've had horrible ringing in my ears since the strike. My ears have definitely been damaged, I can't hear as well now. I was not able to spell very well at all. I never misspell words. The words that I tried to type, didn't end up on the screen correctly, almost as if there was a wire from my brain to my fingers that wasn't connected. I could see that it was wrong, so I had to erase a lot and type slower if I could remember what I typed.I had a lot of zingers all over my body - that's the best way I can describe it. It was just my nerves regenerating. The worst thing iss the short term memory loss. Drives me mad. It's much better now, but I still have to ask someone to repeat something they said 30 seconds ago sometimes. 2 weeks ago today, I broke a rib or two. I refuse to go to the dr because it's $3000 here, $4000 there and last night, thanks to a really strong gust of wind, we lost a large tree. I am so very grateful that it didn't crash into my house. It was about 10 feet away from taking out my dining room - I am so very grateful it didn't hit the house. Not sure how I'll be able to decorate. I could enlist my husband, but this is not his "thing" he doesn't know how things need to be done... I need my ribs to heal... like yesterday. I am just spent - mentally and emotionally. If you have any words of wisdom, scripture, anecdotes, please share.
  20. Storing spare bulbs and fuses

I wish I could get away with ten. Worst part is I get everything down early to late September and that's when they are at their worst Sent from my HTC Desire 626 using Tapatalk
  21. Storing spare bulbs and fuses

Every year I'll be shaking at least ten stink bugs and a lot of pine needles and lady bugs out of my totes every year.
  22. Storing spare bulbs and fuses

Story of my life. Even when I think they can't get in my totes they find a way in. I use the same general type of thing for lights/fuses. Makes things so easy when replacing stuff. Sent from my HTC Desire 626 using Tapatalk
  23. Do you have any info on these two?

    Ok thank you
  24. Pics of anyone's display progress

  26. Need help between LED light sets

I always tell my neighbors that I will take non working strings. I remake them into short patch cords just like everyone is talking about. Cost is $0. I like having the stacking style male plugs for inline junctions. I cut to length and solder back together with heat shrink over the solder joint. One tip is to offset your joints so even if something happens to the heat shrink they won't touch. I also use zip cord and vampire plugs. I just force the polarized plugs in too.
  27. Pics of anyone's display progress

My big push starts Tuesday when my help arrives. Did some of the grunt work this weekend. I got my mega pole up, and hung a leveled the new dumb RBG stars I made this year. This is a test of one of them powered by a 6 volt battery.
