Do you cut down your songs to help traffic?

Recommended Posts

Last week before Christmas and things are picking up.

Right now I am running 3 songs. The whole thing runs about 6 minutes before it loops. I made the mistake of removing Amazing Grace and I heard about it from a few people! LOL

Even running only 3 songs I had one guy say he waited 45 minutes to see the lights. I thought about maybe even dropping it down to 2 songs if things get more busy.

Anybody else drop songs when you get more traffic? It does seem to move them along faster.

I cut mine back starting Sunday for this week. Removed one full song and edited 2 in half. Went from 19 minutes to 12. It's still long but does give everyone a nice show.

We are parking appx 15 cars in the cul-de-sac for each show. at the end of the show we shut it down completely and everybody moves out. Then the next batch is brought in from the staging area.

It takes 3 people to manage it but we will only have to do it for this week. It's worth it.

I am considering cutting back a song or two for this week, but then we have a lot of folk that stay for multiple runs of the current 18 minute show as it is. I also get people commenting that they have been by to see it many nights, bringing different groups of friends each time.

With the local paper giving us half of the front page last December 24th, that traffic backed up for a couple of blocks in both directions. We're not nearly that bad at this point so I'm leaning towards just leaving the full show running and bumping the hours up to 11pm for the rest of this week.

I have 18 songs with some short sequences featuring famous lines from various Christmas movies. Some people stay for 3 or 4 songs and some people stay for the whole hour. I have some people that drive a long way to see it so I'd hate to shorten it. I have had a lot of traffic but it seems to manage ok. People have just waited their turn. A lot of people that can't find a good parking space just end up getting out and standing across the street and watching the show, which to tell you the truth is the best way. It's a carnival-like atmosphere and people really enjoy it and stay longer. The traffic takes some managing but with very few exceptions everyone has been great.

no, we are very lucky and the weather has been awesome, so many people park down the street and walk to the display.... The most difficult thing to manage are the party busses and the limo's. I amazes me that they think that they can turn into the culd-di-sac. It is soo funny to see them attempt a 20 point turn. lol

Traffic is much heavier than before, and we average 600 cars a night. Most will stay for a song or two, but many will watch the entire 38 minute show.....

For those that might have light traffic, build it and they will come. It might take a few years, but they will come.... I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and enjoy the season.

We're considering cutting it back. Currently runs 23 minutes. If we cut it back we'll be adding a voiceover to explain why. We currently have a voice over in the middle as well as the end as it is, and some folks don't get that it loops and think voiceover = end, which is fine with us, as some folks clear out in the middle point regardless of when they got there. :)

I am having to cut it down to 2 songs now.

Traffic is starting to back up and we have a lot of snow and the snow plow does not like to clear the entire road so it gets stacked up on the sides and the road is starting to get narrow.

One neighbor about a block away called the police and said it took him 20 minutes to get home and they came out and we talked to them. The police were really nice and saying how wonderful it was. They are going and get a plow out here to widen the road.
