  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.

  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

Prayers For My Brother

My oldest brother is in the last stages of cancer and is not expected to make it much longer. He has already lasted longer than they thought. It has been a very hard and long week for his wife and childern. As you close your eyes in slumber tonight please remember him and his family and most inportant remember your family and give them a extra hug of love, for we know not what tomorrow may bring.

I will pray for him tonight.I lost my mother last March This was my first Christmas with out my mother.We always would go sliding on Christmas eve.This Christmas I went by myself i cryed most of the day.But today was a good day.I know what you mean by a long week. She died from lung cancer I held her hand when she died.I was so scared to get me some rest I stayed up 4 days and nights with out sleep.When she pasted away I still couldn't sleep I had gotten use to checking on her.Cancer is a bad thing I believe in my heart they have cure but will not give it to people. It would put alot of people out of jobs.So the Gov keeps it locked away.Most people die close to their b day or with in 3 months.If my mother had lived 6 more days it would have been her b day.Now I find dimes all the time. even in my bed.I got to looking online and most people that is close to their family member that has died they find them also.Most of the time they are on heads.sounds crazy.I will pray for him.Have a Merry Christmas
