Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Do you want mini's for .54????

Recommended Posts

Thought that would get your attention. Here is the deal....

Walmart actually marked up their minis to $2.49 for their "50% off" sale. They were $1.89 before that. Sooooooo, here is what you need to do.

Tamale...here on PC got lucky! He argued the fact with a local Walmart. They were at $1.19...right. Well it's suppose to be 50% off right? Ok, .54 per box! He went back later...new crew....argued the same fact got them at .94 per box.

He didn't say, but there may have been a sticker somewhere with $1.89. LOOK FOR IT!!!! That might be "the ticket".

My first Walmart...had NO stickers. My 2nd Walmart had MANY $2.49 stickers. Red and white ones. That is SUPPOSE to be their clearance sticker.

Be sure and look.

I found the $1.89 tickets and then the girl rang them up at $1.19each. Told her about the other price tag ($1.89) and she rang them in at $.91 each... Saved me $20...

My walmart had them @ 2.49 in October/November, then marked them down to $1.88. So they are already on sale. They are taking the 50% off the original price. They did the same thing last year but went 90% the day after chrismas making the $1.88 lights only $.249

I did the exact same thing. I never saw the higher price though. Felt bad for the cashier, she had to individually do each box, the day after christmas crowds at Walmart were not real pleased with me.

By the time I caught the difference she had already scanned in 50 boxes... then had to take each out individually, then fix it and ring them all back in... WTH, don't they have an @ key???

That is what I thought? I even asked her if she wanted me to grab a manager to help her figure out a way to do it a little easier.

I went back to my local Walmart to see what was left. Found those $1.84 signs. The checker pointed out...that was for certain ones. Since they only had 2 or 3 greens left (which I was looking for greens and reds)...I didn't argue with her since she came back to me with the $1.19 per answer. I did find one shelf that had "was $2.49...now $1.19". Started to ask..."When were they $2.49???" but didn't. Was not going to fuss over 3 boxes.

Alert though....saw somewhere else where Target goes to 75% off tomorrow. Online...right now. Yes. Most stuff was gone. However I saw about 30 or more boxes of clear at ours. Even some LED's to my surprise. Think the 100 minis will be at .62 tomorrow.

My Walmart tried the same thing as well. The lights were 1.84 regular price and there markdown price was 1.19. So my mom argued it and got the correct 50% off price which was .92 cents. So I purchased 30 boxes at .92 cents. Not a bad deal.

I got after christmas lights from 2 different walmarts.

I bought about 75 boxes from one walmart that had $1.84 on the shelf and after I bought them all I noticed my receipt said "Was 1.84, you paid 1.19 and saved 0.66"

I took the receipt to returns and asked them about it. They said I should receive the 50% off the 1.84 price since that is what they were selling them at before it went to 50% off.

I bought 375 boxes at another walmart (actually my mother-in-law did) and the shelf had the $2.38 price on it so I bought all those ones at $1.19 each.

So in both cases it was fair. I received 50% off the price posted.

Our Target still had lights last night. Also a unique place to check is your local drug stores (Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, etc.). If you are not particular on your lights (i.e. needing same length for mega trees, etc.)...that would be another place. One place that I bet has lights...KMart. Their lights were so high in price, I bet they still have some. Soon all these places (Target is today) will have them at 75% off.

You guys are lucky you're finding lights. When Target was at 30% I saw some clears, but they were done up as sets of 35 instead of 50 (I think it was boxes of 210 lights?) and I didn't want to have to mess with 3.5V bulbs any more than I already do with some of my wireframes.

Absolutely no other standard mini's anywhere I've been to in the area, and that was before Christmas...

That's pretty much what Robert was saying about my experience, but the first time I went during lunch, I asked about the 1.19 not being 50% of 1.84, didn't realize they rang up the 52 boxes of green at .54 till I got outside.

Later in the evening, I went back hoping to get lucky, mentioned the same thing to the next shift, 1.19 was not 50% of 1.84, and they adjusted the additional 28 boxes to .92 each. Maybe I should have went ahead and grabbed the rest of the blue and purple, but I did get all their green and red.

Maybe it's a good thing lights are scarce this year, cause otherwise, we'd have to spend a lot more on additional controllers :giggle:

Man I'd love to be in Dan's shoes these days.

Still can't understand two Targets in the area, both had over a hundred boxes of 300ct clear icicle lights. Maybe it's because the original price was about 12.00. I wonder if it would be worth pulling the bulbs from them and use in single strands, seems no one had ANY clear 100ct in the stores this year. If anything, they should work fine still for arches.

They rang up a box of greens....$2.49 :-( Was keeping my fingers crossed. They had TONS of the 20 count boxes. Started to grab some of those, but still couldn't stomach .75 per for those. Was going to use some for wreaths. Guess though that those are lower voltage? Don't want that!

I still don't understand where the .54 cents came from.

Me neither. Guess it was a once in a lifetime thing. I wish now I had loaded the buggy with all their minis.

Am kicking myself now....

Wish I had slowed down enough to notice....the flat of mini's I had gotten...HAD THE $1.84 ON IT! Errrrr.

Everyone needs to argue the fact that now they are 75% off....THOSE THINGS WERE $1.84 NOT $2.49. Don't let them get away with it!!! ;-)
