Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Hi, wow, wish I had known about this. Is there a email list for the florida PC members? If so, I would like to add my email address to it....for I surely would have made plans but I haven't logged in for a few months now...time is flying towards the middle of the year already!

Update time my friends! The Florida Mini starts this Friday night in 3 days! Yahoo! We have at least 17 people for dinner that night. If you can make it let me know. I will check here on Friday morning about 6am. Then I will work and leave from there to drive to the Mini. If you you need to contact anyone after that contact Patti.

So far we have 44 people attending Saturday. Bring a folding lawn chair to make yourself comfortable. I'm bringing my laptop. Bring yours or pictures of your display. If you have a favorite display item bring it to show. Dress comfortably. We will be outside, but there is plenty of shade.

I can't wait to see my friends and make some new ones!

As long as the van behaves we will be coming for a couple hours. You can put down me and the wife and the 3 little ones. Been having some issues with the van just hope that we can make it. Hope it is not too late to add to the Florida fun.

Reminders and hints:

Dress for comfort, we will be outside. Patti has a Pole barn, lots of trees and she will be setting up two or three canopies.

Bring a lawn chair, the fold-able captain chairs work great.

If you have a special diet bring it with you or arrange for something. Last year a few people ordered veggie pizzas for themselves.

If you have something to show, bring it. There will be a Mega tree set up, Mini Trees, 1 ch arches, and more.

Friday night's dinner has about 20 people attending.

On Saturday, make sure you talk and share. This Mini's goal is to give you time to get to know each other and share. We want us all to learn from each other.

If you have something to sell, bring it. We usually have plenty of items that people are selling.

I'm bringing my Mobile Black Box transmitter if anyone is interested in trying it out.

I'm checking this site in at 6 am tomorrow and then I'm gone. After that contact Patti.

See everyone soon!

We will see you there Steve. I'm throwing the PC Santa Inflatable in the van for you. I have the red lights if you still want them.

I have some wire frames I acquired. I think they are "Mr. Christmas" types (they have the sleeves over the lights and are motorized.)

I don't think they work (and I'm too lazy to plug them in) but I'll bring them for anyone that wants them. I'm sure you can just re-string them and use them in static mode.

If you are interested, post here and you will have first right of refusal.

If nobody wants them I'm going to leave them in Patti's yard. :P

Then Patti will just have to put them in the scrap metal trailer.
