Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

ya, sounds like fun, "Surprise!!!". But just imagine what kind of message this projects to the company? That these people who sequence music to lights are real rude. No one I know likes to get slammed with a large load of work. If they know you all are going to show up. They can be at least mentally prepared for the large influx of business on that day.

Boy can I agree with that Max-Paul!

I worked at a company and we had a bunch of folks show up for a tour of the plant UN-ANNOUNCED, and since we weren't prepared for it, it caused a major problem for all employees, we had to move folks around, take folks off the line so they could answer questions and show these folks around. Even though it was a "surprise visit", we usually *always* knew when folks were coming, but one day a load of dignitaries just showed up and brought along family and friends, something that was out of the ordinary.

It created a big mess, and believe it or not, just that one day of them coming by like that really created havoc, and it put the production line back NOT JUST ONE DAY, which their visit wasn't even a full day, it set production back almost 2 weeks.

This is why I would definitely tell anyone that arranges a large group, to please inform the company well in advance of your visit, you're doing a lot more harm than good just showing up unannounced, private companies like this are not like your average retail store you can walk in at anytime, unannounced, and then buy what you like, private companies do have production schedules and deadlines to meet, and showing up unannounced as a large group can really throw a monkeywrench into a companies normal workflow routine of what they do.

Been there and done it, so if I owned a company and a large "public" group just popped in unannounced, chances are they won't be very happy because I'd have to turn them away, telling them to please call ahead next time, so that we could accomadate them.

So no, I think it is actually a bad idea just to "surprise" a company like this, it really does upset the applecart as the saying goes.

I think the whole idea of truckloads of people showing up at the factory was in jest! ;) LOL

However, it does sound like a fun idea to daydream about....

I thought I had that nativity but my Mary is holding the baby Jesus. I guess that is a new version. That candle is kinda neat. I like the stick snowman and Santa.

Who was kidding???:giggle::giggle: Ok...only half kidding :cool::cool:

I was seriously considering making a side trip if or when I went to the Chicago mini. Of course, if a number of people wanted to make the trip too, we would contact them prior to our arrival.

Oh, ok. Thanks for clarifying it. Here I was hoping for an unknown Halloween blow mold. Wishful thinking on my part.

I thought it was the Stanley Cup but wasn't sure. Cool picture. I bet your son was excited about having his picture taken with it. Thanks

I could possible do a trip for the Florida people I have a sister that lives in Appelton, WI.

Mike Mais

Ocala, FL.

That would be great Mike! And you wouldn't even need to ship them to me! My wife and I make trips to Ocala all the time, she has family there as well as in Cedar Key and we go and visit my dad and moms gravesite at the Veterans Fl. National Cemetery in Bushnell. So making a drive from Orlando to Ocala to pick up some blowmolds wouldn't be too much of an issue for us!:D

Of course we'd need to find a catalog with prices so we know how much to pay for the blowmolds we would want!

I'm interested in picking up some more Halloween Blowmolds too!;)
