Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

FS.. NEW 100ct minis clear on green wire

Recommended Posts

I have 40 strings of NEW minis they are clear bulbs on green wire.... holiday time brand.

sellling for $1.25 per string + PP fees (guess at 4%) + shipping (guess of $1.10 per string)

Its way too much work getting box sizes, zip codes, and weights together to get a shipping quote and then have people back out.

So an example of how i sell lights follows

example if you want 40 strings

lights $50 (40 x $1.25) shipping $44 ($1.10 x 40) PP fees $3.76 ($50+$44=$94x .04) total per payment $98 (rounded up for ease)

And when i go to UPS and get a firm price i will ship if i guessed too much and then refund the difference.....OR if my guess is low i will not ship and PM you the balance that needs to be paid, and ship when balance payment is received.

Same thing with the PP fees..you pay too much you get a refund.... pay too little I will let you know.

So if you still want to buy.... figure out how many lights you need.... PM the quanity... I will respond if i have that many left with my PP account.. then you PP me .. PM me with a note that you PP me ( i dont check my PP)... i will then PM and let you know i received payment... I will then box up your "order" and PM you the next day with final figures and we can square up $$$ wise.

I am exhausted just reading all that...

It has ALWAYS bugged me to see people asking buyers to cover pp fees.

As a seller (whether an individual, a store, etc) YOU are responsible for "the cost of doing business." That means whatever you charge for your goods has to include the cost of shipping materials, etc. Imagine if people posted "$10 plus cost of mailing envelope and plastic bag and tissue paper."

A brick and mortar store has to pay overhead, rent, electricity, whatever. And they pass along those costs to you, the buyer, when they price their goods. They don't put a price tag on a shirt that say $5 plus $1 towards rent plus $0.60 towards electric plus $2 towards the salary of the sales person...they just price goods to include all their running costs.

A non brick and mortar seller also has to include all the "costs" of selling in the asking price.

I understand about getting shipping quotes and then people not buying... but the rest is just complicating things.

How about the legal statement that prohibits sellers from asking for the 3%?

Just build the 3% into the cost, and when you calculate shipping add it in when you give the full amount, how hard is that?

Just an observation.... :)

Thats all fine and dandy but Im not a business and im selling NOT for profit. I doing this because I dont need these lights and trying "pay it forward" and give back to a community who has helped me in the past .

So i could build fees and other costs into the price but im trying to give the best price I can, and in doing that maybe I made it more complicated than need be.

You know others are right PC is becoming a place to nitpick at others...just as you dont like PP fees being passed along I dont like threads being redirected away from the origional subject.

So if there is anyone interested Please PM me and if you have a better way to make a deal im all ears.
