Wichita area light show locations

Recommended Posts

Great, love the Google map. Hope we get a few more shows listed before the Holidays. Maybe we can all get together some time soon and talk shop. I've been working on my Christmas show for a couple of weeks. Between my neighbors yard and mine I have several mature trees to wrap. I've got two left to do. Two houses are trimmed out. Trying to work my lights to the ground. I'm holding off on staking out the 250 ft of of 4 color ground lights till the leaves are off the trees. Kind of a gamble with the weather. Hope you 'all are having good luck with your shows. It crunch time and I'm already feeling the pressure on to be up by Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone is very well on their way to setting up, doing sequencing, or just ready for the show to begin around Thanksgiving. I have been sequencing now for just over 2 months straight (still have 10 songs left to do) and so I'm starting to feel the pressure to get them done. My goal is 1 per day and be done with a week to go before Thanksgiving or at least 5 days before. I do plan to make a few trips this year around the state to see the displays. I will let you know when I plan to be around your's so I can visit with you!

Happy Holidays and Have a GREAT SHOW!!!

Hey guys,

Just checking in with everyone to see how you are doing. We hope to have the last of the lights up Saturday and start running cords on Sunday.

The only thing that has me worried is the weather on Wednesday. I took off work on Wed so I could mount the controllers and set up everything else. Not real sure how that's gonna work if it's 38 and rain & sleet. And then there's the part about downloading to the monster brain that I'm still not real sure how to do.

Good luck guys.

Steve,

I will have my show running about Thanksgiving. It is located at 6 Flanigan Drive, Augusta, KS. I have a rather unique singing animation of Santa and Reindeers. The show runs from 5:30 to 10:00 Sunday thru Thursday and 5:30 to 11:00 Friday and Saturday

I will get to all of the displays around the Wichita area before they all are down. If I hadn't hit that confounded deer I would be doing the drive around this weekend. But my car is in the shop and so I must wait until it is fixed before doing so... but I will see everyone's display. The one's in Hutchinson are a big hit! If you can drive up and take a look at them both!!

Finally got a moment, whew! I've been fighting the same network and light issues I ended last season with. Swapped out a used box I purchased last year and the problem has for the most part cleared. My show would lock up a a channel on one of 14 boxes and it would clear, but after a time it would lock up a box. During the three day period I had also lost several strings of GE led. I'm hoping they were going south during the box problem, but well see. I had replace all of my network cables and had all my boxes checked out this summer, but the problem showed up as soon as I put this one box online. I was 95 % up on Thanksgiving, but I'm still missing flood lights, strobes on the roof, one fork of a large oak in back and a circle pattern in my front yard. Running 14 boxes 224 channels when all is up. I figure if I can't get the final stuff up by the weekend then we get what we see and try again next year. The frustrating thing is I wanted to have time to clean up my programming before I came up live, but for the second season I missed the boat. May get it done before I try to film the show. Hope your all having a little better luck. I'll be by to check your shows out before Christmas. Have great season.

Mel, The voiceovers were done by The Demented Elf. He does voiceovers for a ton of shows here on Planet Christmas.

Here is his website: http://www.thedementedelf.com/ HIs name is Kevin and he is a great guy. He will set them up any way you want them. I actually had him do about 10 different things but I'm only using 3 of them right now.

Glad you enjoyed the show. We will be by your place this Fri of Sat night.

Zip code is 67502 for anything north of 17th ave

I drove by both displays tonight and they look great. I liked the hippopotamus song used at Heather Parkway.

Socrnet,

About your lockup problem...I was having the same thing happen a few years ago. Come to find out it was interference coming in on the usb cable. If you search "show lockup" on the light-o-rama forum it explains the whole thing. The fix is easy just add a pair of snap on ferrite filters on each end of the cable between your computer and the lor usb converter. Lor sells the cable or you can get a pair of filters from Jameco electronics #218174 for about $2 to use on your existing cable.

I drove by both displays tonight and they look great. I liked the hippopotamus song used at Heather Parkway.

Both of those houses are people that are members here! The College Lane house is Jason Rose and he puts a lot of time and effort into putting up the lights. His work is very impressive to say the least.

The Heather Parkway house is by Jon Powell and I have the fortunate privilege of being the person who gets to program both shows. It's fun to have one great show to play with but even more so when you have 2 in the same town!

Both of them are good friends of mine and I am eager to see what is in store for the 2011 Season.

I have been told I will be getting my vehicle back around the 10th so if I do I will make sure to come and see all the displays I humanly can before Christmas!!

Got out to Gooddard this weekend, to see Eric's display really liked it. The drummers are pretty cool. It's interesting to see different display live and see how they all have something different. Promise to get by Biscuit's this weekend. I like would like to get to Hutch and Augusta but can't promise it too much to do.

Tonight I drove around Wichita and saw the displays I could get to, Steve, Dave, Mel and found another one off the beaten path. Can't remember the street sorry. All looked very good. Impressed with the creativity that I saw. Then I drove my way out to Goddard and saw Eric's display and enjoyed that one. As I was leaving I saw flashing lights in another neighborhood and so I drove on over there across the highway and found a guy who had a simple 16 channel layout.

Glad to see all the displays and I didn't make it to Augusta. By the time I was going to get there it would have been nearly 10:30 and I was getting tired. But will make the trip again to see them!

Hey guys, went to K.C. Friday night. Saw Tyson's, Jim's and Tim's (fellas that have run the Hamplus meetings in K.C.) displays. Each had a some real cool aspects in their shows. Tyson Hofsommer had a real cool megatree that spiraled up using the new rgb 20' light strips. Tim Dorr had a large z tree and two sets of light bars (6 or 7 standing arch poles tied together and mounted on two large trees to create a screen effect) that enable him to display letters (very cool). Jim Wright had 5 of the new light strips setup as arches in his yard and 5 others across the street. Both displays controlled from Jim's house I believe. I'll be getting by everyone's local displays in the next week or so. Traffic has been real heavy here and I still haven't shot any video of my show. Hope to do this from my neighbors roof top on Thursday night. I'll be talking to you 'all
