C-9's/C-7's/Mini's???

Recommended Posts

All of you here in PC are a great bunch of helpful&knowledgeable people and I am torn. I have been using C-9's to outline my house's since 1988 and I know full well that they are juice hoggers(it shows on my fpl bill every x-mas season). The reason I use C-9's is because all of my homes were two-story, and I feel if I use anything smaller than a C-9, the illumination won't be as visible from the street to people. I would really like to put mini's, but (as stated earlier) I hesitate. I hear&see so much about L.E.D's, but are they bright enough compared to the old trustworthies? I would really like to change&save money, but I am afraid of compromising beauty for buck.

I have a smaller house so I don't have the issue of being seen from the street. I have used mini's to border the roof. I didn't like the brightness as you are afraid of . So I tripled the number of lights. I use three strings on top of one another to bring the brightness up to where I wanted.

NY - I have outlined my roof sections with C9's for a long time, I have also thought of LED C9's to save on power but they just aren't bright enough. At one time I used 675 C9's (225 Red, 225 Green, 225 White) just on my gutters - they looked great but the idea of power conserving had to be addressed. I now use 4 channel C9 cord that I made and have a bulb every 12" as opposed to every 4" - I tell you all of that because C9's are very traditional and I personally enjoy the traditional look. Also, I cover my entire roof with mini's (Red & Green) besides the C9's, the boxed in border looks great -

To hopefully answer your question, I don't think LED's are as bright and look as nice - also LED's are much more expensive initially but in the long run will save. I haven't converted because my personal preference is C9's & Mini's!

All my feelings exactly. I do want to save quite a bit on juice, but don't want to compromise light output. With A two story home, i'm afraid of mini's, or c9(L.E.D.'s) getting lost. Basically, I want to blind inbound aircraft(just joking), and those won't do it. I just wish there was a way to string more than three sets of regular c9's together.

Hi All.

I replaced all my C9 s with the 5led retros from Illumimax they are brighter and more colorfull than my incandesents. i bought the blue, red and green they are dimable and fade very nice and now all my C9s retros might equal 1 or 2 strings of the incan for the power useage and yes if you look at my pics you see i outline the house and yard with C9 s. give the man a call he is most helpfull or email him.

4 years ago I bought a box of LED's from sams club just to see what they looked like, on the house. This was about a week before Christmas. Had about 20 strings of C7's on the house all neat and finished. I laid the LED's on the handrail of the deck and plugged them in. Then unplugged them. Got in the car and went back to sams and bought a bunch of LED's. Took ALL the C7's down and put the cheapie sams club LED's up that night. All my neighbors asked me the next night what I did to make the lights on the house look so much better! Of course now sams/walmart has shrunk the size of the LED they put in their lights. Too bad the old ones looked good.............
