Has Anyone Ever Bought A No-ladder Decorating Pole?

Being someone who has gutters that are up to 20' high in some places, and also being someone who doesn't like heights, I bought a Decorating Pole with Adapter on Amazon for $12.99 (the product page on Amazon.com is right here: http://www.amazon.com/Dyno-Seasonal-Solutions-97444-312-Decorating/dp/B000FT1JKQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1300479322&sr=8-1. However, when I received it via UPS a few days ago, I went to try it out on the gutters, and I couldn't get my gutter clips to stay on the adapter.

Looking at the box and "not-detailed" directions that came with it, this pole/adapter is used to hang lights on trees and other landscape areas, but isn't used for hanging lights on gutters (it doesn't say that on Amazon's site). So, my question is, is there an adapter that I buy (either on Amazon or some other site) that will work for hanging lights on gutters? I tried doing a search online, but couldn't find anything. Any help would be so much appreciated.

Thanks!

Paul

If you are really looking for a pole to put up the hooks, home depot had some this year. Not sure how they worked. They did require a special clip that slid on the end of the pole. When those clips break next year, will they be available again? I like Doug's idea, and might do something similar for my icicles this year. My plan is to use PVC or conduit and then have a hook on each end.

You have to remove the head then use the special clips, they thread onto the pole, once you finally get them on to the gutter then unscrew the pole from the clip, I got one last year, wasted money.

the pole locks are weak so lifting 20 feet of light string causes the pole to drop just about when your close. I just ended up using it to put the lights in the trees and even that had my cussing the tool.

The pole on Amazon looks like the ones that I use to decorate trees. Except mine, purchased at Menards and or Target, have a much larger package that includes a bunch of what appear to be special hooks as described in other post. I don't use the hooks but I'm pretty sure I haven't thrown them away, because, well you know. If you want them, and I can find them, you can have them for the cost of shipping. But, I'm not sure it's worth it - they look like they would be a pain to use, especially on take down. Let me know.

The clips that come with it can be a bit difficult to install on the gutters. I have several of the poles, all bought at 75% off, except the first one, which was a door prize at PLUS 2005. As others have mentioned, I have had two of the poles fail at the joints, they will not lock in place. I do use the clips, but I put them up with a ladder. Never used the pole to instal clips, but if you can get a painters pole cheap, it might be a better, more durable option. Especially since you can unscrew the top of the christmas pole and put it on other poles. I know at one point you could actually just buy the scre on topper without the pole, but that was years ago.
