Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready??? Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

    How's Setup/programming Going?

    Recommended Posts

As soon as Halloween was up in the middle of October my son and I started putting up Christmas. It seems like we're ahead of the game right now, but there's still a lot to do. Only a couple of weekends before Thanksgiving. Hope the weather cooperates after the next few rainy days. My guess I'll be working right up to Thanksgiving day.

I'm 100% setup and just waiting on the electrician to put in the outlets for the controllers and I'm set. Still need to program some songs (had to change everything up display wise so the songs I did won't work with what I have now.) and other than that I'm good to go!

If you get the chance and are in the area come by! Would love to meet any of you again!

I've been 90% up an running since Thanksgiving. Yesterday I finished a great big maple in the back with four color and stripes to boot. I finished one of my spiral trees today and hooked up my last controller and it won't power up. Blowing fuses. You can imagine how hard it is to get A.L on the line right now. So all's up except my spiral trees. Which may be out for this season if I can't get another controller.

I'm right there with you Steve. Been trading emails with Aaron from A L for a week or so now on our bad controller. I finally told him that I have the show up and running and I will just mess with it after the lights are turned off because I don't want to take a chance of messing anything up right now.

The good thing is no one has noticed anything is wrong with the show (but me).

My show has been running since Saturday and I am thankful that I have had no major issues, other than coming home tonight from work and all lights were on yet the show was off. Ran inside thinking something had gotten stuck but found the show was over and for some reason the lights had stayed on. I work mid day to about 11pm so I'm not home for 95% of my shows going and so far luck is on my side, both weather and show. I am hoping one of these days I'm off to make it to Wichita and the surrounding areas to see the displays.

I'm completely up as of Dec 1st. Cleaned up some lights out in the top of two large maple trees in the back of my display. I was able to get both my spiral trees running after I piggy backed them off my 16 green mini trees. Programmings isn't exactly what I wanted, but what can you do. I spoke to Paul at A.L. and they are 50 controllers behind. So no new controllers are available. I'll deal with my one bad controller after Christmas. Hopefully, the others hang in there, because there's no room for error now. I'm just glad 16 controllers are up and running with just a bit of network slow down in a couple of songs. I hope to be around to check out everyone's displays and pick up some ideas for next year. You all have a great month of December and great Christmas.

Davester how is 99.7 working out. That is what I used until tonight. In front of my house I might get my music or a voice singing in Spainish. I guess we have a new Spainish speaking station in town. Had to change my transmitter and signs.
