Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

The Winter Display...

Just thought I would share my tiny Winter display. All the molds that were once Christmas got a new purpose with light and dark shades of blue. However the TPI is an original.

And a few night shots, I leave the white lights lit in the trees until spring, helps brighten such a cold and dark time of year here.

Nice job for sure!

Clean, simple, and straight forward which gives it a very elegant appearance.

I really like the various shades of blue as well. Really makes things co-ordinate together for a theme.

A+++++ on that display!

Love it, you always have such attractive repaints! We do something similar every year, this season needs a bit of light in the darkness.

You should try to add in a Union Polar Bear and a SB/GF 46" White Reindeer.

Union Products did also make two snowmen in what it called Hollywood and Sunshine. They also had a blue/white spiral candle.

(Thanks for posting that cataloge, Mel!)

I miss Union a lot.

Really cool, Tom! (joke unintentional; I'll have to wintry again. Oops, there's another one.) Snow way anyone could do better! Hail no! That's a ice display for the neighbors to admire as they ride by on their icicles, Chevy Avalanches or GMC Yukons. I'm getting too cold for this; I'm gonna go get some sleet.

Thanks so much, I am glad you get the look I am going for. I want everything to go together in the blues so that it just dosen't look like left over Christmas molds out there.

Thanks so much and LOL My plan was to use my two white walking deer out there, the bow on the lamp post was to go on one of them, but I coulden't get them to fit in. I do need a set of those Union polar bears. I too miss Union, never thought they would go out.

Love it, Tom! The repaints are so nice looking. Really pretty! Is this your first year doing a winter display? How long does it stay up before the Valentine's display goes up?

Look great! We are having a huge snow storm as I type so in prep I put out a snowman myself last night. I figured if we couldnt see the display in snow this year at least we can see one of the old boys out there glowing at night while the snow is falling.

I love your repaints and these have such a nice glow to them.

Thanks, it will stay up until about the last week of this month. Hopefully I will have the new valentine stuff painted by then to get that display going.

Thanks so much, it was such a shame we never saw snow this holiday season, everything looks so much nicer in the snow! I think that's great you put one out there, you are a true decorator LOL

Wow! Those are impressive repaints. I especially love the snowman in the first picture on the left. He looks so much better than the version GF makes!

Thanks so much! I think so too, LOL. I am not a fan of what GF is producing these days!

Thanks so much! I really do like the look of the blue colors, and this time of year we need all the help we can get. It is dreary and gray here most of the time, this time of year.
