Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Planetchristmas In 2012

2011. What a year but it's now ancient history. The PlanetChristmas staff took life easy during January but we're now back in the saddle for 2012.

We do need your help as we move into the new year. What can we do to make things better?

As far as the forum- I would DEEPLY appreciate, if possible, the reactivation of the ability to use the TAPATALK application. It makes reading and posting to the forum a breeze.

So much variety in RGB. Software support for RGB. Sources for lights. Controller. And lots of "how to's" GEAR topics to the guy who has little or no knowledge.

Adding to Senior's comments; how about a How To Place where users can upload their how to videos and presentations for everyone to have access too? That way; if we want to find something, we can just go to one central location.

I love Planet Christmas especially the forums. What frustrates me the most is when I try to refind something that has been posted and can't or it takes forever.

Maybe the process is already there and just can't find it (can't get it to take my photo either so probably just me!).

Restoring the pictures from old posts....there is a lot of good information, but if it is an older post the pics are no longer there. Without pictures, some of the older posts aren't very useful.

Also, I like Paul's idea of a user controlled How-To section....although I think it would need to have good moderators to make sure the info was relevant, without a bunch of duplicates.

Speaking of moderators, maybe some moderators to keep the forums on topic...and move posts to appropriate areas.

Maybe an area where that is just for showing off your display or displays, instead of them just being buried in different areas through out the forum.

Link FaceBook pics that are posted automatically just like the Youtube vids (pre-loaded). That way I dont' have to uploade photos to PC. Also, Fix the photo upload buttons on the quick reply screen. Anything dealing with photos is a pain-in-the-rear.

The Classifieds area is horrible, go back to the original post type format. At least there was discussion. And people posted a lot more stuff for sale. Just a lot more social.

I'd like to echo the suggestion of "restoring the pictures from old posts". There is so much history in the Blow Mold forum that seems lost now that a lot of the pictures used in the posts are gone.

Hmmmm. The forums have a built in mobile app for viewing but I also see where I installed TapATalk long ago but hadn't refreshed it to the latest version. Done. Feel free to try TapATalk again and search for PlanetChristmas.

It Works! Thank you! I know there were several others that had been using it as well. Hopefully they'll see this- and I'll goupdate that thread as well. I deeply appreciate it as I had purchased the app since it worked so well. Again thanks much Chuck!

It must be broken then because I have 200 posts and it shows me as "new member" yet some on this page with less then half that have member or advanced member titles. :P

I don't care about the title, just thought I would point out it does not always work by the post count.

I would like the Blog again. Can you start that back? Or at least activate the old Blog Post? Also, I strongly agree with adding back the pics in the older threads. Any way to make adding pics easier. I stopped adding pics because it was a pain. The How-To idea is good.

Thanks for posting. It seemed like I was the only one having this problem.

I can see where restoring the photos can be difficult if not down right impossible. I think we should look at finding a way to preserve as much as we can to prevent losing the information in the future.

Even with the current system, you can have problems. A user who uploaded files may run out of space and delete old uploads. Embedded images on another web site could be lost if the account is closed or the website reorganizes its directory structure.

On another forum I belong to, "epic" posts can be nominated for a "privileged status." A copy of the thread is made and cleaned of comments so that only the "story" remains. This copy is places in a special forum.

What if we did something similar with the How-Tos? If a How-To is nominated and receives a sufficient number of votes from the users, it will get placed in a special How-To forum or web site. The reason for the vote is so that EVERYTHING doesn't become a privileged post. Maybe it should be converted to a PDF document so that all the images can be saved. I would like to hope that by organizing these files in a manor like this, it would be easier to make sure they survive an upgrade/server migration, etc...

I will even volunteer to help any user who has posted a How-To in converting their post into a PDF.

It is not a solution for saving all the images, but it will prevent a How-To from becoming worthless.

In the mean time, if you see a post with missing pictures, PM the user and ask if he/she can repost the pictures. Hopefully the user is still active on the forum.

It's been broken forever.

I am listed as a member with this should make 71 posts yet I have close to 8000 posts.

I do feel status is an important feature that should be based on forum time and post number should be listed. This tool is used to determine people's identity and reputation when interacting and buying/selling stuff.

I want to know when someone became a member, the levels of membership so I can see how fast they advanced and I want to see their real post count. This stuff matters when it comes to forming responses and determining if I want to pursue a for sale/wanted listing. I'm sorry but I don't want to deal with jos blow that showed up yesterday and wants to sell me a $500 item and has 4 posts.

I would also like to see the membership list made available and become more useful again where it can be searched by state/city and those lists brought up.
