Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

Lor Controller Issue

As usual, late start for the year...and this is the first year I have had problems with my controllers being recognized by the computer.

I currently have 8 controllers in the yard, two are new - 6 have been in use for the last few years. When I configure the network in the LOR hardware program it recognizes 5 some times, and then 6 at other times...never had it recognize all 8. Below are the details (I listed them in the order of the series they are ran in):

  • Controller #07 - New controller for this year. Just opened the box, but I have had it for about 4 years on the shelf. Has a 50 foot CAT 5 running from the computer to the controller. Recognized by computer.
  • Controller #05 - Has been used for the last 6 years. Has a 50 foot CAT 5 running from controller #07. Recognized by computer.
  • Controller #03 - Has been used for the last 6 years. Has a 3 foot CAT 5 running from controller #05. Recognized by computer.
  • Controller #06 - Has been used for the last 3 years. Has a 100 ft CAT 5 and then a 3 foot CAT 5 patched together running form controller #03. Recognized by computer.
  • Controller #04 - Has been used for the last 3 years. Has a 3 foot CAT 5 running from controller #06. Recognized by computer.
  • Controller #08 - New controller for this year. Just opened the box, but I have had it for about 4 years on the shelf. Has a 50 ft CAT 5 and then a 50 foot CAT 5 patched together running form controller #04. NOT recognized by computer.
  • Controller #02 - Has been used for the last 6 years. Has a 50 ft CAT 5 and then a 50 foot CAT 5 patched together running form controller #08. NOT recognized by computer.
  • Controller #01 - Has been used for the last 6 years. Has a 50 foot CAT 5 running from controller #02 NOT recognized by computer.

When I run the configure tool with the LOR hardware program when it detects 5 it stops in my series after controller #04, so I recognize the problem is somewhere between #04 and #08. I tested the cable thinking it may be the patch part being a problem, but it works between other controllers. When the ethernet cables are plugged in, all controllers display a solid red light on the panel. When the hardware program detects 6 controllers, it says the 6th controller is controller #AB or #AD. What concerns and confuses me is why does it detect a 'random' controller (saying it is detecting #AB or #AD). The controller that is causing me an issue is a brand new controller - purchased along with controller #07. I have another new controller I could swap #08 with, but I dont want to keep opening up controllers just to trouble shoot - Maybe someone has some better advice to test. Having all the controllers desplay a solid red light is also confusing...this should indicate it is receiving an ethernet signal, right???

Any help would be suggested!!!

OK...I was out side and trouble shot some more (who else would be outside at midnight in December other than a LOR junkie?)

I used my patched cable and bypassed my new controller and went to my old one (which was the next in the series). It was detected fine and was able to light various channels. It did not pass the signal to the next unit, but I believe the plug in may be broke...so I will have to look at getting that fixed.

So it looks like the issue is with my new controller not working. I will swap it out tomorrow and see if that is all it takes. If that does work its a really big bummer cause its a brand new unit that sat in my garage in the OEM packaging for a few years.

I also wrote into LOR with my original post to see if they have any suggestions.

Had a big issue this year with the connections on the boards where the CAT 5 plugs in. Actually had to bend the black connections downward to make it connect. Going to have to have three of them fixed after seasons over.
