Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Ok, so I guess I got taken.  I know I should have known better but wanted to share this with fellow members and especially newbies on the forum so they don't get taken like I did.

I purchased 2 CCR's from a poster (texaslightguy) a couple of weeks ago for $400.00.

He asked to be paid through Western Union and I told him I really wanted to pay through Paypal as there is some protection for the buyer.

He explained to me that he had issues with Paypal before and he hated paying their fees.

I could relate as I have sold things on Ebay before and had funds held and fees where crazy.

He sent me a picture of one of the CCR's with his D/L and offered to ship them before he received funds and then would give me the tracking number after he received the funds from Western Union.  I thought, well if he is willing to ship before he gets a payment, I should trust him that he would ship the items after payment - right, WRONG!!

I have purchased things before on the classified section of PC with no issues and great service from the posters, so I dropped my guard and sent the money.

Well, guess what, no more returning emails or phone calls and no returned texts.

Anyway, a very expensive lesson learned by me when I really could not afford to loose this money, but I wanted to warn others that it can happen right here on Planet Christmas too.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Here is the picture he sent.

How disappointing.Always check the member profile to gain some insight on who you are dealing with before doing business. In this case, texaslightguy shows he just signed up as a new member here 30 days ago {and probably posted his fake ad the day he joined?},and has no posts.....all "red flags" as to be extra careful if you decide to conduct business.

You're right.  I even had a Western Union fraud class at my previous job, so you think I would know better.

I have his address, cell phone number and email address.  I had contacted him through all 3 - even spoke with him a couple of times.

With the picture of the actual CCR, I thought it was as legit as I was going to get.

By the way, texaslightguy - his name is Dexter Williams.

If you have all of that, you need to contact the police ASAP.

I did PM George over on the LOR Forum's.

He was very helpful and I contacted the local sherriff in Dexter's town.

No surprise, they know him well!

Hopefully will see some compensation.  We'll see.

Thanks everyone.

Wow!  I am going to send you a PM with the Police Chief's information.  Contacted and spoke with him this morning.  Probably would be a good time to contact him.

This guy is a trip.  Look at his friends in the lighting community.  He even has a huge family display in Texas.  And he claims to be a Christain.  Look at the photos with the fellowship at church.

This just irks me more and more.

As a fellow Christian it's saddening.

I hoped maybe he had just fell on hard times but this is clearly a major scam. I will make that call today.

God bless this wonderful community! I've been praying for guidance on this and then today I find this thread :). It was freaking me out.

BUT good did come from this. Because of this experience I found a new financing option I can offer to all customers that protects you and me :).

Exactly, this is not the first time this has happened, and he goes and brags how he goes and parties with the money.
