Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

My Love For Hamberger Displays

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Hamberger Fans, can you please help me identify the attached pictures of Elves?  Approx. Year and theme ?  I would like to know what they are supposed to do and with what prop please?

I found them for sale locally for $130 as is, no tools or accessories.  One Elve works (hands move) and the other one doesn't.  Both still have original cord and motors.

I checked the 1983' PDF Hamberger Catalog earlier in this thread and could not find them.

I would appreciate any feedback? Is is worth the purchase? I know how hard it is to find them, this would be my first Hamberger purchase.

Thank you very much!

Rick

RickyRo,

These look to be Center Stage, the company that bought out Hamberger in the early 2000s. It's difficult to tell which set they are from for that reason. $130 for the pair is definitely a deal.

Depends on the motor, if you get a chance, look inside as to who the manufacture is of the motor. It's most likely a McMillian which isn't good news.

If it is a McMillan is there a recommended way to replace with a new motor?

Im going to assum that if a McMillian its toast.

Thanks for the info.

Rickey - Older Mc Millian motors are awesome so do not count out the McMillian. Unfortunatly the new ones are crap & only good for parts. Gleason Avery, MK, ECM, & Brevel are among the most common motors they used & I am a fan of the Gleason Avery because of the larger gears they used. Remember just because a motor does not work when you plug it in does not mean it is burnt out. It may just need a litttle help to get moving.. The stator gets stuck, gears bind up from lack of use or grease gets gummed up. Climate & humidity play a role in it as well & living where you do  well that could just be it. If these figures are 10 or so years old it may have the older motor in it. Go to Home Depot buy an AWL set or a lock pick set by Husky for 8 bucks & I will show you how to free up the motor, maybe it can be salvaged. Fell free to contact me any time, I am always learning new tricks from others but will share what I can when I can.

Sammy

BTW for $130 buythem they are asteal - nice figures

Both of his arms move up and down. If you'd like a picture of the bells he's holding I have several downstairs that I could photograph for you :)

Just realized that I have the Santa & all the props for the scene in the picture 8A845. Did not even know I had it. Will be sending out Santa for a new suit & hope to have him back atop the roof real soon. Also after a long process finally got my Hamberger Goofy 100% restored & ready for display. Will send pics once I download from my phone.

Love the Ferris wheel also Darrid.

Love the soldiers also. Will you make them matching (look wise) and does the other soldiers arm move?

Yes they both have head and arm movement. Just got the other arm fixed yesterday. The faces need some touch up so not sure yet how they will come out.

It's been a busy week, just found another 150+ Hamberger pieces, working on lots of deals! Pictures to come soon! I'm doing some repairs for trade so I'm anxious to see what will be available in the end!
