Inspiration

I'm getting to be an old man. It seems to be harder and harder to put on the display I work so hard on creating throughout the year. A struggle, and more than a few times, I question whether I can do it one more year. That is when I look for some inspiration. We all need it at times, I hope to attach some letters received over the years to inspire us all.

 Here is another.

Mr. Vaughn,
I just wanted to send you a message telling you how much it meant to my daughter to see the lights. We drove four hours from Roanoke VA because we heard it was fabulous and something out of a fairy tale.. My daughter Ashton is 19 and very much believes in Santa and love lights. She has down syndrome autism and was diagnosed at Duke this year with Early onset Alzheimer's. Because of her age, the disease progresses much faster than that of an elderly person. I am a social worker at a nursing home and see the affect it has. But we make the most of life, and seeing your lights last night brought the biggest smile to her face.. She woke up this am saying "light light light ho ho ho" and signing more . I just want to sincerely thank you for bringing so many smiles to people who drive by and see you in the window. For some of us, that is our Christmas. May your family be blessed and have a merry holiday season.

Thank you Bill. I really needed to see these today as well. Like John, the medical issues make it harder and harder to keep up this hobby. Just this morning the computer died (backed up- thank god) and I haven't put one light up. I'm gong to be working on the cold for the next couple weeks and when the computer stopped working, the first thing I thought was "I hate f'ing Christmas!" I told my husband -that's it. I'm done. No lights this year!

Reading your letters reminded me why I do this. For my little girl- my blessing. So thank you so much. I'm going to get my sorry butt to work and get the lights up.
