Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

Thanks Mr. Matt That's the look I go for. Tough for me because by trade I'm an visual fx/graphic designer and I fight the urge to go RGB/pixels Sync show with projection mapping but.. my display will turn in to a full time gig for me... I know it.. LOL! My wife said keep it classy.

This test image I was doing just a test for my projectors LOL--

Sorry those gift boxes were a find from Costco a few years back- They don't sell them anymore. They look great during the day and at night. These were the best looking boxes I've seen. Sadly I only bought 2 packs at the time. I have scoured the net / and stores looking for them for 2 years.

Beautiful set up!!

Thanks JPat! This year was fun for sure! I added the 14 foot mega tree, 6ft snowman and the ridge vent lights, which did make a huge difference! My property screams add more, but the LED's are so bright it almost becomes "too much" and defeats the purpose. When I first started this display we were all white but it was just a whitewash of bright lights.

Things I have tried:
Driveway Arches- Length of driveway vetoed that.
(20) 36/24"  Led Snowflakes for the roof  (Those will be next year)
Cases of "try me out" lights
Icicle Lights
RGB spiral trees
1 foot mini trees
Lighted Reindeer/Sleds
Blow ups

They all just looked out of place for one reason or another.
Any members with suggestions- let me know!

You could try multi color for the wrapped trees, keep the bushes all white.

I'm curious on the snowflakes for the roof.

Tried that. I have a case of multi-color and they stand out too much - the 5mm multicolor is too dominant.

I wanted to get them up this year but I need to make the mounts. I did set them flat on the roof with shingle clips-they didn't look very good. I will need to build plywood platforms with ( L ) Shelf Brackets.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I looks very well thought out and set up with detail.  I don't think that there is a need more, but have you tried green and red floods on the house?

Those are nice looking gift boxes! I'm trying these this year from Walmart. Time will tell to see how they hold up.

They look great for your sleigh-- the boxes I use are all fabric type material, not they typical Sisal type material. Which kind are the ones from walmart this year?

Put a dimmer on it. May or may not work with your LEDs but I have had good luck.

any links to the dimmer you use? All my lights are full wave pro-grade so shouldn't be an issue on dimming. Great idea. I would need to buy a couple as i have dedicated runs for each section.

Not sure if they're a Sisal type material? These boxes from Walmart are like a pretty thin mesh; definitely not a solid fabric.

Ok thanks I''ll check them out when I go over there... Sidenote- I saw a DYI - "PVC Frame Lighted Gift box" (google that) they looked super easy and might be worth looking into for yourself as well. You can make them pretty big. I added it to my to do list.

Those are nice! And the knock down feature is key for me as everything I have goes in a townhouse basement; might have to give them a try.

Sorry no link. I just used an led comparable dinner switch from Lowes and put it in an outdoor electric box and cover. I cut a spry extension cord and wired that to the switch so it just plugs in line with the extension cord and lights. I'll snap a pic tonight.
