Reactions to Great Christmas Light Fight anyone?

Recommended Posts

I was curious what everyone thought of Monday night's GCLF.  I loved seeing Bill Vaughan win, and it was well deserved.  I really enjoyed seeing the indoor displays as well this year.  I thought it curious that there weren't as many LOR, RGB, Pixels, etc. displays.  As always I wish they would cut the whole contest silliness and just show us great displays with behind the scenes info, but I guess America wants a contest.

Slankard:  I concur with you regarding the whole "contest" aspect; I actually find it a bit reductive and crass (but I'll keep watching and wouldn't mind the $50k).  IMO it would be better as a pure celebration of the motivation for, artistry in and execution of our displays than a competition where, by definition, 1 wins and the rest "lose".   A single light or decoration can effectively convey/reinforce the message of the season - that is the true "win."

I have only seen the first episode this year. Still catching up. The contest thing is ok, but I think some of the people are in there for the prize. Yea they say they like to make people happy and see their faces and some it's very apparent that's the case.

There's a few that just seem like the money is most important.

At the water mill place that one the first episode, there is a picture on google maps taken in October of this year from the balcony overlooking the red and white sea of lights. In the picture they are still putting up lights at that time. So I wonder if they are now filming as late in the year as possible.

But you all are right. All the trees still have leaves. I don't know if I'd be able to put up all my display early, and then just take it down after the filming because the grass is still growing...

Hey everyone it has been awhile. Actually GCLF has changed things up a bit the last few years. Because of the shows success they film this years shows and next years shows the same time. It worked out great for me as early setup was the reason I turned them down in years past. My episode was actually shot last year on Nov. 10th. It was still early setup but not so early that I couldn't leave everything up and light up as usual on Dec.1. How they choose who airs the year of the shooting and who will be on the following years show I don't know but it worked out for me.

I wish it wasnt filmed, in the summer...nothing more then a big turn off, then, seeing the judge guy on there(second half) wearing winter clothes and seeing the homeowner, come out in shorts and short sleeves....oh, and the grass is green and there are leaves on the tree...check it out sometime
To be fair, some of us are still wearing shorts and flip flops!

And thanks for reminding me...I need to mow!

The biggest thing I like about the show is when you see the ones who truly enjoy it and have been doing it for years. Always nice seeing random ones close enough to me I might just travel and see. Always great seeing other PC members on there too is a plus.
