SMD LED are much brighter than the standard LED. Below is a set up with C9 Retro fit bulbs. I am not sure about strings sets of C9. All of my string sets of C9 are not very bright.

The brand most of mine are Minleon type from holiday light express. I did a set up with the lights at different voltage and my lab meter is to right of the light display. One of the pictures I add incandescent C9 and C7 bulbs at the bottom. They dim pretty good the C9 go out at 35V and C7 go out around 24V.

The ones in the pictures are SMD LED C9 retro ceramic bulbs. The SMD LED are much brighter than the older standard LED bulb.
