Anyone In Here Still Have A Static Display.

We have (had)a 4,000 light static display with a plywood cutout manger scene. Last night I installed a Noma Digital Light Show controller. It's not as amazing as LOR or AL, but it has some pretty interesting patterns. My wife isn't interested in a lot of "flashing" so we'll see what happens next year! I'm planning on a number of mini trees and a small mega tree next year, hopefully bringing up the total to 10,000 lights. Having a hard time finding lights on sale this year. Everybody is out, and Home Depot is still selling for full price.

We've had a static display since 1994, and really have no desire to go computerized.

We do static also. We have about 16,000 lights, 18 Blowmolds, several wireframes and a life size Santa on the porch. Picture does no justice but cant get the whole house, but we have more stuff around each sside and the back also. Merry Christmas from the Wise's in Virginia Beach.

The main problem I see with a lot of computerized displays is that there really aren't that many things in the yard. It's mostly lights on the house and bushes, some trees and deer. There's not much variety like you have with a static display. It's cool to watch the display, but there really isn't much in the yard.

That's extremely similar to what we do. It's about 1/3-1/2 static, and the rest are animated, but mostly on. I like the look of lots of lights, but don't want traffic clogging things up. Some cars drive by, others may stop for awhile, but usually just for a song or 2, and that's what I want.

Just like you, ours is "not so much like a show, but flashing to the music". I wouldn't do it any other way, unless I went back to doing static, which I love... While the "mostly dark" animated displays are dramatic, they lack the prettiness of thousands of lights on at once, in my opinion... (and it's just my opinion, not meant to slam anyone's preferences)

Mine is static all 30,000 the meter spins really fast. if it wasn't enclosed by glass I'd be really scared might fly off and hurt someone. James

My Display is 99% static, and that is for 50,335 lights! :happytree:

And I use 2 Instant Light Show boxes for the 1% lights!

And I have the new digital electric meter so I don't have the disk spinning any longer!

This is my first year with more than just a string of lights up. I have about 5000 lights.All static. Sorry I have no pic, but it has been so hectic this season. I took on another project this year. I made a Family Video Album DVD. I have never done this before and didn't realize how time consuming video editting could be. Our families live far away and don't see us often so that is why I did the DVD. Anyways, I plan on getting more lights and I do want to go animated eventually(2yrs from now is the plan) but for now I am totally satisfied with a static display. I love Christmas lights static or animated....it's all good!!! Merry Christmas to Everyone! And have a wonderful and safe New Year!!!:happytree:

Mine is all static except for 12 mini trees on a DLS box. I like alot of lights on all the time. Make my house glow, I want to be seen from outer space. Watching the synced videos gives me a headache. I don't want any darkness. If I do any LOR it will be just my mini trees more to the beat of the music, sort of like T. Fischer's.

Mine is all animated. I created my own circuits and wrote my own code in VB a few years back.

Not to say Static is not the way to go, but since I have upgraded to LOR, so far all the people I have talked to say don't change it. They love the show and can't wait till next year, since each year I try to add something different.

Now, If I had 100,000 lights like some here claim to have, I don't think some or most of it would be animated.

I am just around 20,000 depending on how you want to count your lights.

I am torn on the animation.

I don't think that I want the whole house blinking, however, I don't want the ho-hum either.

I am sure that I will run the majority of the display through LOR just due to timing and being able to dim some lights.

I have some ideas to run a static display 70% of the time and 30% of the time have it do something else.

No need to, it's just that everyone (including me, for the most part, although I've been trying to change in my newer sequences) does it that way. No reason you can't do graceful fades, color changes, and the like, with absolutely no "blinky blink".

You have to take a look at the whole picture.

Look at the site that do total animation, then look at peoples site that do static.

You have to decide what works for you.

We still have 35,000 static bulbs in our display mixed in with 40,000 animated ones run by LOR. It's good to have a portion static, great for taking photo's.

The blue in those multi lights is amazing. I've seen several around here. They almost look purple, and it really makes the color pop! Can you tell me where you go those? Is that purple, or is it really blue?

I have a static display, no idea how many lights. Well, mostly static. I have one of those DLS boxes for my mini trees. Not computerized in the "traditional" sense on this site.

I don't have a pic of this year's display that's worth a darn.

Those lights are C7 LED light strings that I purchased from Costco this year. 100 lights per string. That color is blue and yes it does pop. You should see them in person to get the real "feel" for them.

I used 5 of these strings instead of the 10 strings of standard C9's that I've used in the past. I can't wait to see the next electric bill and compare it to last years.

I still have a static display as well, with the exception of the blinking lights in the windows. For next year, I hope to do more.
