  1. i decided to make one last trip to the Goodwill outlet store (surplus items) before Christmas to see what was available. It was good timing because I was able to find two more blow molds for my nativity display - the GFP standing wise man and a cow. The best find was a "Gemmy Lightshow Christmas Lights 6' Projection Lamp Post with Lighted Signs, Electro-Fire". The two blow molds were less than $5 together and the lantern was $13 based upon the weight. The light in the lantern is special. It's an LED assembly that flickers with and orange color. It really does look like a candle flame. W

  2. I have this saying: "the easiest thing to do is nothing." Most people seem to default to this setting. Sooooooo... I'm going to leave things alone, at least for this season .) But... I'm wide open for suggestions on how to make PlanetChristmas a better place. Please let me know here or send an email to me at [email protected]

  3. Just about done. I took off all last week because I had vacation to burn and was well used getting everything ready.. Had a lot of rain the past two days but that actually helped find any wet plugs before it all actually goes on.

  4. After much consideration, I've come to the conclusion the PlanetChristmas forums will be around as long as I am. I ventured over into the world of Facebook. Good gosh... what a black hole of time. It's so easy get get distracted. I found the never-ending ads especially irritating. Sometimes the latest is not the greatest. Maybe the new Planet Christmas tag line should be: "Say hello to the gold old days!"

  5. Well despite the huge size I liked the animated flame LED bulbs so I decided to use them. I used the jig saw to widen the mount hole for the bulb to get in.

  6. Not done yet. As you can see from the pics the weather got pretty bad yesterday and today compared to what the holiday weekend was like. Here are a few pics I took a little bit ago because there is some snow on things, it might be the only time, so I took some pics. After they uploaded they are a little crappy, sorry.

  8. Made this up tonight. I took three wire wreath frames. 2 12" for ears and 18" for the head. 50 count blue strand and just zip tied it all up. Plan is to make a bunch more and then "hide" them through out my entire display. We kind of are a big Disney family. I need to get a few to make smaller and maybe one large one for the roof. 9. Hey all If you’re not on Facebook or have not seen or heard, but I have a small business and am happy to announce an exclusive blow mold snowman never seen before and will NOT be seen in retailers. If this does well then you can bet there will be tons of designs to come. The snowman will be $65.49 and available only through pre order on our website in a couple weeks. He stands 34x15x15. And will be made in China. If you have questions ask away. Like the business page to keep up to date as well Facebook.com/Richardsholidayshop

  10. Went to the Blow-molded site and found a full redesign and updated items! You can look up blow molds in different ways. There are even catalogs to download and browse. Some of the blow molds now have a front and back view. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful update! 💟

  11. We have been awarded a Beautification Holiday Edition Award from a local community group .Someone entered us in the competition without us knowing and we are grateful. We have hit the big time! Our picture is going to be in our local newspapers. Yes we have two papers and they both come out weekly and have basically the same stuff in both. It's that type of area. This is our first year doing this. 32 channel LOR with all LED. The PC community has been very helpful and I thank you all for taking time to help us that are new to all of this. 13. I've gotten to the point now where I'm needing to rotate what I put out every year, simply because I'm out of lawn space. I can't really go any closer to the road because of the sidewalk plow, and fear that if I add more on the rest of the lawn it will look too cluttered, so I'm rotating things out every year. For example, I had a (mostly) different set of figures sitting on the wall last year, some of which I used elsewhere, some of which I kept inside. I also used a different Disney set last year. The only new scene entirely this year is the Empire/Alderbrook snowman trio towards the bac

  16. After about a decade of waiting, I finally got into blow mold. I had planned to wait until Black Friday but they were sold out days earlier at the local Ace Hardware store. After searching all over the internet, I found them at ToolBoxSupply.com (Troy, NY). I saved about $20 by not buying similar candles at Lowes.

  17. I am new to the Christmas display community and have used PC as a place to learn new stuff each week. A friend sent me some links to some Facebook groups as that is what he frequently uses for ideas and support. So I joined up and did some scrolling through a couple of these groups. I actually posed one question hoping for some suggestions. The responses I got ranged from nasty language to disrespect. I had one helpful suggestion. I will spend my time here from now on. I realize there may be some humor, rolling eyes, or whatever when I post on here but this place has been really helpful to me

  18. About 5 years ago I was watching some random Christmas light video and in the background I saw SOMETHING that looked like a glacier/iceberg. Not a realistic white snowy looking iceberg but an icy blue form and from that point on I developed a slight obsession with trying to make one. The video was no help, it was only in frame for about 3 seconds and was very far away. So I've been trying all kinds of weird stuff for the past few years, and they all looked like crap. This year I started looking for inspiration from church service backdrops and I saw something that I thought could work. Th

  23. We "opened up" for our first time tonight. Posted it on Facebook with no pic or video. We live in a small town and in less than an hour had 5 or 6 cars come by. Several commented on Facebook. I can see how this can become addicting. We are running a 32 ch LOR with all LED. I enjoy making people happy and I am already trying to plan for next year being bigger and better This has been trying but fun. I think it will be worth all the money and effort.

  27. Hi Donna, The "Ghoul" cast on the site is likely resin, and possibly somewhat hollow, but being upwards of 50lbs it is at minimum heavy. Depending on the manufacturer's process, a cast could be either used to create a negative mold (the inverted form) out of something such as cast aluminum, or to test a machined (think carved) negative mold that would later by used during the blow-molded process. Either way, casts were commonly a one-time part of the initial creation process of a new design. It is possible for some manufacturers to have then painted and re-used the resin casts, but that

  28. Hello fellow Nebraskan. I'm digesting some of your points, but I wanted to get some clarification first. You mentioned "scrolling down [...] one by one" and wanting to see things in a grid format. The website should still be showing up as a grid just like it did previously. I've attached screenshots (new and old site) - are you seeing something different? Are you using a phone or computer?

  29. I've visited this house many times--an annual tradition! They are the nicest people and have the most amazing collection. Many of their items are older and have seen many winters. Whereas I keep my nicer things inside... they seem to put everything outside. They add more each year... I have a closeup of the reindeer head see below. I asked where he got them but now I forget. Maybe Virginia?

  30. I hope the forum stays. Yes, they are not as popular as they once were and that other entities, from Pinterest to Facebook, have all the pizazz of the moment, but forums are where serious discussions take place. The internet needs forums. They are an archive of past discussions, which are just absolutely invaluable libraries of information. I love pizza and a particular pizza forum upped my game in a way that social media never can. Reviewing threads that went back to the early 2000's, their information was still relevant to me. The same with this forum. If someone has a question, c

  31. Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you have all had a great day. I wanted to share some pictures of my display. Still no where near where most of you are but getting bigger every year. Such a fun hobby. Will be time to take it down soon which stinks. It always goes too fast!! I’ll fix my upside down pictures from my laptop tomorrow!!

  33. I'm on a wire frame one in book face that's not bad. You can't beat good ole PC for real info. I know there are two other forums Christmas sites similar to PC but that are 98.38484999% animated, dancing, pixels and all that jazz. I know there's plenty of that here but also tons of static help. Heck even stuff on storage is great here.

  35. Hey all, new to the site. I have been putting up Christmas displays since I was little, but have really ramped it up over the last few years. Make a lot of stuff out of pvc and wood, looking for ideas, troubleshooting and just learning about different thingsand helping others if possible. If I had to guess I’m around 30k+ lights that are lit. Have a bunch more but ran out of ideas and will probably have to upgrade our electrical panel next year. submitting some photos, but I have added since then. Once the weather holds off I’ll try to get some better pics and drone footage G

  36. I never liked putting sand or pebbles in my blow molds because it makes storing them in my attic so much more difficult. I bought some ~20 year old used blow molds in the middle of the summer and was surprised at how much the light was attenuated by the coating of dirt on the inside of the blow mold. It was quite a task to clean the insides after removing the material used to weigh them down. I mount my blow molds on a piece of coroplast - used political signs that are easy to get around election day. I live in the desert where most homeowners have switched to desert landscaping. That

  37. That looks great! I like all the Municipal blow molds. I like seeing everyone displays. Around me there are not that many with blow molds. I am not done but the weather went from rain to cold to snow late last night that melted pretty quickly. I hope to finish up when we have a few dry days. Also for some reason some pictures have yellow hues to them.

  40. PC Controllers with the plastic enclosures have a limit of 8 amps/channel and 15 amps/power feed cord (one feed does channels 1-8, the other 9-16) Consider also that and individual home circuit can only handle 15-20 amps, with a 75% or 80% max usage being ideal as stated above. Depending on your usage you may be able to put both controller feeds on the same circuit. If you use a lot of amps, you may have to separate the feeds to different circuits. I highly suggest the Kil-A-Watt meter as well.

  41. Every show is different. Every sequence is different. Drawing juice at different times all the time. I purchased a Kill-A-Watt meter $20 bucks ebay. Answers all your electric capacity questions. When I switched over to LED's, I removed the second power cord and put in a jumper because I was pulling way less Amps then on Incans. Run one controller at at time plugged into your Kill-A-Watt meter and record the draw. Create a sequence with every channel on. You will be amazed how many things can be plugged into a 15 or 20 amp dedicated outlet. (one year our basement lights were pulsat

The setup: 4 trees, each with 150 lights 1 tree with 170 lights ... so 770 lights total. Using incandescent minilights from Walmart Total cost (including a new LOR 16 channel light controller): $291 All lights off: 5 watts of power (I assume that was for the light controller electronics) All lights on: 234 watts of power.
