Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  • About my display
there are alot of christmas lights
  1. i would make the trip to chicago. its on my birthday so it sounds like fun, party in chicago my wife would love it!!!
  2. i wonder if anyone would like to see how the spiraling tree is built? i live pretty close to there, about 80 miles.
  3. The thing with wrapping the spirals is that they can be tight or loose spirals its all up to you, what you want the tree to look like, my spirals are kinda loose but i could have probably used 3 strings of lights and made the spirals tighter.
  4. alright you all got to put in your 2 cents so now it is my turn. I REALLY don't care what you call it. I don't care if it is called the "Michael Jackson Wonder Tree". You people wanted to know how i did it, i told you. you don't like the answer that is fine. Don't try to tell me i stole your exact plans when i spend 8 hours a year "lurking" on the forum. Really if you are that insecure about yourself then take all the credit. people weren't giving me credit for designing they were giving me credit for implementing and getting it to work. So really magii and ChuckH who did you copy to get the designs? surely 2 people in the world couldn't possibly come up with the same idea at the same time. also i would like to thank all the people who gave me support, it is really nice to know that some one on this Christmas forum has the Christmas spirit. :121_reindeer:
  5. i downloaded it off youtube. the video was called techno christmas but i don't know the actual name of the song or who did it. sorry
  6. i downloaded it off youtube it is called techno christmas. i don't know what the actual name of the song is, sorry.
  7. i dont do animation the sequencing takes long enough. i dont know about the shimmering or twinkling i mostly just turn them on and off.
  8. i have no trouble for 2 years with the same strobes
  9. The strobes are so simple. Go to menards or home depot and by 250 watt halogen work lights, about 5 bucks a piece!! Just a question, what is a mega tree, is it above 10'? 5'?
  10. it took 3 days with 3 people the longest part is zip ting the strings to the cables.
  11. My original thought was i wanted to make a candy cane mega tree but i had so many multi lights i just used them. I never named the tree i just called it a spiraling mega tree, someone else named the tree even before i was a member.
  12. Never even thought of that but it sounds cool indeed,it was hard enough to get the lights on the tree. Going two ways with 2 different colors might work. Wonder what kinda effect that would look like?
  13. Every idea is in my head, i scoured the internet to see if anyone had done this before and could not find no one that did, next i had to make a model of it, then we built it! If you see my last year videos i made a 25' snowman that no one even seen, and it was truly amazing to see! There is 2 16 channel balls that have 9600 lights on each, that rotate around in a circle, the point i am trying to make here is i want to do one thing a year that is original!
