Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  11. Anyone have a source for the Gemmy shooting star icicle lights.Thought i had enough but i measured wrong. These are the clear lights 11 ft long with the long and short icicles.Found some of just the long but i need the others to make the roof look right. If i cant find them i guess i;ll remove the ones i have for the upper roof.

  13. I have 26 4 ft emerald greens in the front yard of my house. Can i wrap those without any problems without killing them. These would be logical for mini trees so i guess the idea would be dont wrap too tight.I was thinking i;ll start one tree white leds then the next tree red leds then white red white red?I;ll try 2 strings on each and if they dont look good i;ll add more.Anyone here wrap the real trees? Why build fake ones when i have real in the yard.I;m sure the heat from the lights wouldnt do anything.
  14. Tried with 2 and i like the look a lot better more of a rounder look to the tree and i offset the uprights so it looks a ton better. Thanks guys..
  15. Here is a question for you mini tree pros.I put together a couple trees using tomato cages.Wrapped the lights all around but the tree kind of looked triangular not round.Guy i know said try doubling or tripling the cage to get a stronger more rounder look.It just seems like a waste using more cages for one tree. How do you guys solve this.I like the look of the j tree in a pervious post but i dont have a welder.
  16. Checking christmas light show for curtain strobes and they have been out of stock.Today went to site and domain is no longer active. Are they gone? Anywhere else to get them..
  17. Had 8,000 lights on the sons house and he has a 48 channel light o rama unit.We will have lots of questions in the future i;m sure.Working on some arches rite now for next year and have some cosmic color ribbon and looking to have that controlled as well.Just reading and looking around and have learned a lot so far..
  18. Just for the heck of it i screwed 2 metal flag pole brackets on my fence.Angled and screwed so i get a good bend on the arch and so far looks pretty good. Not sure if i;m going to do it this way but its a easy way to attach the pvc to the posts..Removal of the pvc is effortless..
  19. Had all the stuff here to do 8 brackets and arches.Have more to probably do 10-12 moreThe pex doesnt fit inside the 1/2 pvc so i had to sand off a bit from the inside of each elbow and the end of the pex to get a good fit.Was a bit of work but i got it.Going to use the new cosmic color ribbon from LOR on these i think.Have 3 sets coming..
  20. I;m looking at these and i;m thinking i have plenty of 1/2 PEX pipe from when we plumbed the basement. What are the arches measurement ? Where can i find the spacers for the elbows? I have everything to make at least 12 of these in the shop..Couldn;t find any spacers at Home Depot..Any help would be great..Thanks
