Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. Ok thought this over and in the past I have done forums mainly for video games lol long story. I use to run forums and get paid to actually play video games when my mom was very ill. It was a job so I got a idea on how to do it somewhat. Forums I can do for free I will need a few admins to help get sections up. People will be able to advertise there sites as well on them. I up for ideas as well I would like a large section for Rosbro and vintage holidays as well as maybe Department 56 items. In the next few days meaning by Tuesday I should be able to have it up and going. If there I can get good traffic ill be more then willing to pay for paid forums. If intrested please contact me and as soon as I have the site running ill also post to my facebook and here. For blow molds though this will be the site I will direct people to as well. I am not here to step on anyones feet or the site this place has been a wonderful place for me and I look forward to being on the site everyday now.
  2. I love the idea of a website! I have to do something in creating a website with all the stuff I have its really gotten to the point that its harming us in being able to do normal activities in the house. If anyone is willing to help out in leading me to the correct way that is not too expensive I would be more then willing to put it together. There is NO other website that I can find that puts Rosbro collectors together or even really vintage holiday items. The other issue I have is my grammer is not the best around. I do apoligize to anyone that chringes like my wife does when she reads my posts. I have found that alot of people dont really understand prices. Its not that items have dropped in value. When times get tough the market gets flooded normally with items so the prices seem to get cheaper. When times are good collectors hold on more to there stuff so there is a bigger demand on the items keeping the prices steady. The market can also be manipulated I have seen this done in some sections on ebay. How this works is there is a so called expert or a group in one specific area who have a following and use there blogs to manipulate prices. Basically someone sells a item and it goes for to much this expert will criticize the auction. They will do it to a new seller or anyone who is not in the group. Basically manipulating the price on items on what they go for. I have not seen this done yet on Rosbro items yet on ebay but I have seen it done with other areas on ebay. This has done more hurt to the average collector then most people think. Some areas we see less and less people willing to post items on ebay due to this. I am one of those people as well. This is actually how I found this site and even though its not exactly what I want it really has helped in finding good people to share thoughts and to have a good time. I have more work to do though in hopes of getting good people who are intrested in the same things together collecting and conversating. I have been a member here for just about a week now and all I can say is its been a highlight each day in conversating with people here and sharing my collection. I have met some good people here on the this site. Thank you all for that it really has helped me!
  3. I went back and found really 2 books I use . Both are very outdated and im up for any others that are recent. they are Halloween Favorites in plastic written by Charlene Pinkerton written in 1998. The other book I have is Plastic Novelties &Toys of the 40's 50's and 60's written by Jean Rossi copyright 2002. If there are any others I would also be intrested in getting a copy since most of the price guides are very outdated.
  4. I do have a good bit of reference books ill have to get back to you later today and post all the names I have. Most of the books I do have are older meaning 2008 or earlier. I do have paper work on most of my collection either similar items and what they went for or what my mom paid for them. I watched alot of what was purchased and help organize alot of it. The Easter Rosbro collection that I own is just massive Christmas is preety big but Halloween was were alot of the exitment was for us years ago. I can try to see what I can do later today it is another big yard sale day for me and its preety late lol. I will though get back to you later today on your questions.
  5. That is not even a small fraction of the rosbro collection. Maybe 2 percent I dont have rosbro collection up yet on my facebook yet. That link kinda tells a bit of the background about me. Im kinda new here and had problems with the pics I wanted on the collection. What im actually sitting on/working to move is a super collection of vintage items. Im going to say about 2k if not more of just rosbro plastics. Me and another member here last night sat down and traded pics of the collection last night into the wee hours of the night. Had alot of fun with it. I will try my best to get those up on facebook for everyone. I think im also going to be moving alot through a website that I have not built yet lol. If I can be of any help on almost all vintage holiday items on prices what they are please anyone give me a shot im allways willing to help!
  6. That is a great find he also comes with skies. If anyone ever has any questions on Rosbro items feel free to ask me I have a very large collection myself. ERRRRR this was not intended I had pics of your santa that you found and with me behind this computer I was only able to get the back side of one of them. I give up now on posting pics here. It is actually a great find did they have and Halloween or Easter Rosbro? I wish the yard sales were I live would have stuff like this! err im awful at this with photobucket and getting pics on forums.
  7. I dont know much about running displays on the outside of the house but I do live in Georgia and have a running hot tub in the garage lol! What I did to seal the 6 gauge wire I had since I do have young kids around and 220 laying there with sometimes watter was to run the wire in pvc. I painted the PVC black so it was not noticible. So far so good no jumps and no one has been shocked.
  8. Can anyone tell me what this Santa is and maybe a price range. Im good with most of my collection but just a few peices do send me for a loop like this one. I would normally say if its old and ugly its worth more then old and preety looking lol. not good with placing pics on forrums lol. If the pic does not work ill need to find another way to get the pic up here.
  9. Hey thanks yall for the warm wellcome here! The pictures are just part of her collection it gets worse lol. There is nothing on the rasbro collection or the basement that holds alot of Vintage Christmas as well. Were talking bubble lights vintage german ornaments paper products like houses. Im really overwhelmed here with the collection. I do want to stay on topic here with this collection as well. I just got here so I dont want to violate any rules here regarding other holidays. So I guess if there is a question regarding other vintage holiday items please feel free to email me. As for the Cristmas collection it is very large and has taken over the entire house as well as our basement. I will check back in later tonight. Again Thank you all for the emails and replies I have gotten I really look forward in interacting with all of yall here.
  10. Hello everyone! Thank you PlanetChristmas for acepting me into this community. I would like to start off with giving a little bit of a background about me so here it goes. My mom was a huge collector in vintage holidays Christmas Halloween, Easter, Rosbro plastics, just about you name it. She would go to a fle market they had normally once a month called Lakewood Fair grounds. Well in 2000 she came down with breast cancer and was not able to do the collecting she use to love. So the great child I was lol I showed her ebay and got her a webtv "since I was not willing to show her how to use a computer" Things took off for her she was keeping records that I still have and buying, talking with other collectors and so fourth. Her collection was taking up the entire house and did. Well due to the kimo therapy and radiation she came down with Cerosis of the liver she never smoked or drank. This is not meant to be a sad story or poor me story beacause its not like that. Well anyways we made sure we had a blast and she did to with collecting up to her passing in 2010. We all had a blast. My wife was 3 month's pregnant when she passed with our only child. So now to present I have a house full of vintage holiday items and a 2 and a half year old girl. I have sold a little bit but you really cant tell the house is full. You can view a little bit here actually about 600 pictures https://www.facebook.com/Attic.Things just click under the headings on the page for more pictures or halloween collection to get to more pictures. You dont have to be a member of facebook to view my stuff. I would be willing to talk to anyone who wants to I know a good bit about most of the items. For my first post I would like to thank anyone who spent the time reading. If I can be of any help to anyone feel free to ask me. Again Thank you all!
