Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. Finished my second while my daughter was in her dance class. Green one will be next. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  2. I will hit Clark Griswold status at 25k+ this year. My house backups to another busy road so I get to display in both sides. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  3. 120/240V - 2 Plug is checked and I have 2 20 AMP fuses in the box connecting to the timer. How would I convert that to 120V or would I be good stripping down a heavy duty extension cord to plug into the timer? Or by asking all these questions am I out of my league? Lol. Trying to keep this one safe for sure. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  4. Made this up tonight. I took three wire wreath frames. 2 12" for ears and 18" for the head. 50 count blue strand and just zip tied it all up. Plan is to make a bunch more and then "hide" them through out my entire display. We kind of are a big Disney family. I need to get a few to make smaller and maybe one large one for the roof. 5. Luckily I disconnect the pool pump every season so it's no biggie. I know it can be done since those are also used for just low voltage landscape lighting just didnt know how "safe" using an extension cord would be in there Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  6. Not sure why I didnt think of it before but i have a pool. It has it's own 30AMP breaker that's not used in the winter. Anyone see any issue with using this timer and cutting off the male side of 3 pronged extension cord to plug into this like I would my pool pump? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  7. This is the one I have now. No issues and the app is easy to use. Small downside is it's on 15AMP and not 20 but easy enough to work around FEIT Electric Outdoor Smart Wi-Fi Dual Outlet Wall Plug at Menards FEIT Electric Outdoor Smart Wi-Fi Dual Outlet Wall Plug at Menards https://www.menards.com/main/p-1560494221818.htm What's nice is we did a bunch of work at the house since I'm working from home right now so I've got a nice rebate for Menards to stock up these. 8. Does anyone use smart wifi plugs? I just got one a while back to use on an outdoor light over my barn and so far so good its working well. I like the ease to set the exact time and if I want them on earlier or later I just adjust the schedule. I'm considering switching all my timers to them. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  9. Meijer is 50%. I went today and was really surprised they had 9 boxes of the jumbo yard pathway staked lights left. Probably shouldn't have bit bought all 9! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  10. Anyone out today getting day after deals? I was 2nd in line at Walmart which meant I missed getting the JUMBO lights. The dude sprinted across the store to get them Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  12. I know there's usually not a lot to pick from but I picked up a bunch of red and green net lights from Hobby Lobby today. Every thing is 66% off now. Few things of LEDs but not a ton. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
  13. How long did it take for you to get all those choir molds? I'd like to have that but know it will take time and money. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
