Did you know?
• The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
• The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
• The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
• Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
• The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
• ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
• Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
• Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
• The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
• Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
• Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
• That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
• Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
• Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

2. I need Red and Green Mini lights with White wire. Walmart has Red with white wire but now I need some green with white wire. Anybody know of any places that sell Green Minis with White Wire?
3. I am watching the Holiday Lights 2005 DVD and watching Chris Berglunds display. I noticed he had a rope light star that turns. It physically turns like a disco ball would. Anybody know where to buy one or is this a home made item? Thanks.
4. Images are still not working (can not hotlink to putfile.com) You may just want to do an attachment. You can not do more than one attachment but you can do multiple replies with 1 attachment each.
5. I really like your pumpkin! Your photo of the front and back is not showing up in your first message, can you post it again? Thanks.
6. Thank you everyone for you suggestions. There are some really good ideas here and I will head to the Hardstore and look at all the options that people wrote about. Thanks again!

8. I think I am going to be adding a MegaTree to my display this year and looking for the easiest way to do this. I plan on just using the single pole with strands of light going right into the ground method. I really don't want to do the dig a hole and pour some concrete. I would like it to be around 20' tall and will use guy wires. What is the cheapest kind of pole I can use? Does a large PVC pipe work at this height? What could I find at a local hardware store that would work? Thanks.
9. I can tell by your choices of music you like Synth Pop and 80's style music. I do to. In fact I am going to the Pet Shop Boys Concert this week. The question you have to ask yourself is what is the purpose of your light display. Are you creating it as an expression of yourself or are you trying to make it a "Wow Show" and people can relate to the music and it gets them "in the mood". There were many songs that I would love to use as far as just a light show goes that I really love, but I know that most people would not be able to relate to the music and would walk away saying things like "The song was kind of weird, but those lights where awesome". There really is no "wrong way" to go about it. As far as my display, I want it to appeal to the masses so I choose some songs that I would not normally listen to (No Country or Rap Music though, that is where I draw the line ) - Every song is based on tradition Christmas Music with maybe some different versions to spice it up a bit.
10. Justin wrote: I have not changed them yet. I bought a 1000' spool of C9 sockets and put those up and then put the Orange Lights in. It took a long time but I am sure it will go faster to just change the bulbs since I will not have to mess with the strings.
11. I just use the built in clip on th C9 bulb and clip them into the sofit. Right now they are all Orange C9s and after Halloween I get to change each one to Red, Green, and White.
12. I see that he switched over to Animiated Lighting. http://www.consarlights.com/links.php
13. C9 Bulbs take a lot of power. I put up some Orange C9s spaced 4 inches apart and when they are all on it consumes 33amps (two dedicated breakers just for the C9s). That is a lot of power and I have them hooked up to 6 channels of LOR. If I used LEDs I would only have to use 3 channels of LOR (I have 3 sets on 12 center centers to get chase effects) and I would have more power for my other channels on my LOR board since you can only run about 15 amps per side. So why didn't I use LEDs? To get the bright C9 LED bulbs that have 5 LEDs per bulb, they are about $1.30 each which would cost about $1200 just for the 850 bulbs. Using standard C9 bulbs only cost be about $110. They do make cheaper LED based C9 lights but they seem only to have 1 LED so they are not as bright as the old school C9 Bulbs. Power is not really an issue since I just installed 10 dedicated 20 amp circuits for my lights.
14. I would not say the product is poor. It is exactly what it is. A LED based flood light. I don't think they made them with the Animated Christmas Light person in mind who is going to be trying to dim them. As far as the brightness goes, I admit that the Red is not as bright as a 100 watt flood lamp but the greens are pretty near (the green is brigther than the reds). The main reason why I went with LED based flood is because of the pure colors and also the response time. I am using 18 channels of LOR with LED floods to light up a line of trees, and the instant ON and OFF make it nicer when doing some fast chase sequences. I am though disappointed that you can not fade these LED floods but they were never advertised as such. Right now I am wondering if I should go back to floods and get the advantage of fades or stick with the LEDs for their pure colors and instant OFF and ON.
15. I have tried all kinds of methods to dim these LED floods and they react the same everytime. I also tried putting one of these LEDs onto a manual dimmer in my home and it does the exact same thing. You will have it almost all the way off and the brightness will be over 50% and then it just turns off.
16. The Good I have been wanting to do a computerized display for a couple of years now and this is the first year at my attempt of such a project. Most things are going as planned and things for the most part seem to be coming together. The Bad Not sure what to do with my Flood Lamps. I bought 48 of them but not sure if I want to use them since they can not fade. I designed all my sequences with fading so I would have to change parts which will change the look I was envisioning. The Ugly After creating a few sequences in LOR and testing them, I have found some bugs in the current LOR software. (see http://www.barncow.com/christmas/lorbug3.wmv )There is a bug doing short fades and they really show up if you don't fade all the way up (example 0%-30%-0%-30%0%-30%). LOR knows about this bug and they plan on fixing it before Christmas but who knows if this will really happen. Many of my effects I want to do require these short fades, and I will have to totally redo some sections and change my vision if I can't get software that does this. For now, all my sequences are on hold and waiting for a bug fix from LOR or waiting for d-lights new Spectrum software to see if I can resolve these issues. The first week of Nov I will have to see what is available to me in terms of the software dept and work with what I got.
17. I am not sure if you tried attaching a picture, but if you did, it is not showing up. How tall is your house? I have a 32' ladder than I do my house with. If you plan on doing this every year, it may be good to get one.
18. I plan on hiring a guy in an elf costume to run up to cars and use shaving cream to put "99.9" on the front of their windshield.
19. I was checking out mskathie32 website at http://www.freewebs.com/mskathie32/santasnorthpolemail.htm and saw that she has a dropbox for letters to Santa. What I found interesting is that it seems like she mails out letters from Santa. This sounds like a pretty cool idea and was wondering if anybody else does this. I am sure Kathie will chime in but also wanted to hear from anybody that has done this before. Does it ever get overwhelming where you are sending out over 100 letters?
20. I am putting three different colors on each tree in my yard and was wondering what is the best way to do this. For those that have already done this, do you find it easier to just put each color on or to combine the lights first and then put them on? I tried twisting them together buy gettin a 12" piece of wood and twisting it with a drill. |X X X| The twisting goes real fast but when I put it on a tree, it was a pain since it was trying to unravel and would get twisted up. Any other ideas?
21. I know you talked about using a car amplifier but you may also want to consider a small car stereo booster which is pretty much a small amplifier. You will have to get a 12v power supply for it though. Most of they have a small 1/8 headphone stereo jack so you could just plug your sound right into it. Most of them don't have a volume control but they have 4 speaker outputs. I only used the Front Speaker set and then you can control the volume by adjusting the fader knob Here is one on ebay for cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280038976442
22. I really have never cared for blowmolds but I would have to say the granite looking ones look pretty nice. If they made a bigger set of granite ones, I think I would acutally buy a set for the yard. I never thought of it before but I was wondering if you could paint any blowmold with a granite color.
23. I have read a few messages here on PC and have noticed that some people Run their shows and then take 15-30 mins or so for "Intermission" and then fire up the show again. What are the Pros and Cons of running your shows Back to Back compared to having no animation for periods of a time? When most people drive around looking at Christmas lights they don't really stop and may just slow down and they may happen to drive by when you just have your lights static and not even know how cool your display really is when the show starts 5 mins after they passed your house. I plan on running my shows Back to Back so people can always see it animated. What are you thoughts?
24. I have playing around with 16 of the Action Floods on a LOR controller and have not had a problem. They always turn off and on just fine.
