  • Christmas 2017 countdown has begun. Most people reveal their displays the day after Thanksgiving. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.

    Yeah, saw this on BMN.
  2. Indoor Speaker Outdoors

Yes, I did. Thank you all for your help.

Oh, I didn't mention that it doesn't have a ground. I knew it was odd, but didn't think it to be worth mentioning. I *think* I may have found a way to fix it using VLC media player. I just have to change the audio effects around with each song and save it to the configuration. It has worked ok with the first two songs I have done. If it will stop raining outside I'll take it out there and see what it sounds like.
  4. Indoor Speaker Outdoors

Volume was at 100%. I was on a chromebook so there aren't any detailed audio settings. I can however hook it up to a windows pc and change those settings if it will make a difference.

Thanks, I will research that. I'm a software developer and web designer on the side, so I can work with software or anything else of the sort. I am not good at wiring, and if it requires wiring (especially small wires) I will look for a cheap used amp or some computer speakers.

The DVD player worked, but was still quiet and echoed. It is only one speaker (it was originally a pair but I only bought one). I wired it from the red and black wires to the RCA cables (red and white).
  7. Indoor Speaker Outdoors

I wired the speaker to the red, white, and yellow TV cables and used an adapter to connect them to my laptop via AUX. can hook them up directly to the dvd player. I'm going to go try that now before I spend any money.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, I haven't been on my computer much in the past 3 days. So I figured out a way to wire it, but it has problems. The songs either echo, the music is overpowering the singer, or you can't hear it at all. So I guess I'll look for an amp. Maybe I'll find a used one somewhere. Also, instead of an amp, could I hook it up maybe to a dvd player? I can put my music on a CD if necessary, although I would like it to be on my computer. To clarify: I don't have a radio station. It's just too expensive. None of my computers have HDMI ports, and I don't feel like shelling out $500-$1500 on another computer (I already have 6). The speaker says that it takes 60 watts, but it works when hooked up to my computers.

I am going to be playing music with my display this year (and hopefully have it synced in 2-3 years) and I purchased a kenwood (indoor) stereo speaker with the red and black speaker wire. I got it wired to an AUX and my chromebook and laptop will play music through it, but it's really quiet (on full volume). I will be sitting it outside on my front porch (which is covered) and running the wire into my front door, to one of my laptops. I thought I could wrap it in wrapping paper and make it look like a gift, and it would be ok. We don't usually get heavy rain here in november and december, but if we do there usually isn't wind. What do you think?
  10. Good Christmas Songs with Strong Message

To me, two of the most powerful christmas songs are "Breath of Heaven" and "Mary did you know". See the link below for the songs I will be playing while the lights are on, and hopefully sync them all with LOR in the future. Feel free to download them (it's my website). MUSIC LINK
  11. Looking for ideas and inspiration

They are all normal 100 strands except for 2 150. Maybe I can use them to outline the garden beds or driveway.
  12. I have 1800 extra multi-colored mini lights (incandescent). I am thinking about different ways of utilizing them (new DIY decorations, maybe outlining the driveway). I also have some clothes hangers and tomato/tree stakes (NOT the wire baskets) to work with. I thought about making some spiral mini-trees out of clothes hangers but I'm not sure how to go about it. I am also thinking about buying several 2x4s and making a mega tree. What are your ideas? If I do go with the mega tree, about how tall can I make it (12 feet is most I am willing to attempt).
  13. Website Reboot

Why don't you just reload the page?
  14. Need a website?

I can set you up with our new HTML5 platform. Please contact me at [email protected], so that I can get more information. We have had some users to request their websites be ported over to 3rd party editors like weebly, wix, and dudamobile. Otherwise, it's just raw code that can't be edited within a GUI. I will admit, it looks more professional to keep it as pure HTML, the only downside is that you can't edit it personally. But that's what I'm for! EDIT: I have most of the info that I need from your fb page and old website. I will message you on fb if I need any more info, and after I finish your redesign.
  15. I am going to make an offer to design a website for the first 6 people who comment on this thread. I provide free web design and paid web design services. There's no catch, assuming you don't mind having 2-3 non-intrusive advertisements in the footer. See examples of my work at the link below. ==>>>www.artisticdesign.tk **Note: If you would like your site to be ported to a 3rd party editor to allow you to edit it personally, it may contain addition non-intrusive or intrusive advertisements, depending on the editor you choose (if you even want it ported to another editor) Also, I'm not going to charge you after 30 days, or one year, etc. I'm just trying to offer my services to fellow Christmas decorating enthusiasts.
