  1. Looks like the TSO deal is over -- it's up to $5.99 now. However, the $1.99 one is still going, as are those free links I posted. More Freebies: http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26sort%3Dsalesrank%26ref_%3Damb_link_85861971_13%26rh%3Dn%253A318774011%252Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%253A625150011&tag=laoli-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957 Unfortunately, it's not all Christmas albums, but they are easy enough to pick off. And don't forget the free song-of-the-day thing that tlangley posted about!
  2. Even better deals --- FREE!!! Every time I clicked on one, Amazon found 2 more for me. Click through a couple of links and you should start getting suggestions for more freebies. I have to stop looking, I have work to do!
  3. Wow, here's another deal: The 99 Most Essential Christmas Masterpieces (Amazon Exclusive) $1.99! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002S34S82?ie=UTF8&tag=laoli-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002S34S82 It looks like a lot of classical, so there may not be a lot to sequence here, but for $2 can you go wrong?
  4. Amazon has Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "The Lost Christmas Eve" MP3 album for $2.99 right now: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00123D6GY?ie=UTF8&tag=laoli-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00123D6GY 23 tracks for $3 is a STEAL. Individual tracks are still $.99, so invest the $3 and get them all!
  5. I'm not sure what angers me more: Fox news NOT reporting the real issue - This is not about a Christmas Display, but about improperly installed outlets on an easement which is not permitted by the codes at the location. -or- The people who believe Fox news without checking the facts themselves. The only reason this gets the press is because it's a hot-button topic (Christians VS local govt). If this were the summer time, the display was not up, and the person got a summons for improperly installed outlets on an easement, does this even get 1/1000 of a second of press? Nope. I'm sorry but if the rule is on the books, and the person broke the rule, then the person needs to suffer the consequences. It is also perfectly within the rights of the Grinchy neighbor to use the code as he has done. Rules are rules, and they are not suspended just because it's a Christmas display. The only thing the display can do is play by those rules, and be obliged to now ensure the Grinch plays by them as well - the sword cuts BOTH ways . Hopefully one day all of us will realize that our displays can be disruptive and not everyone will like them - no mater how much cheer we spread.

If it doesn't have any rights management, all you have to do is copy the file (maybe to a USB stick)....
  8. I use both 16AWG and 18AWG SPT2. The SPT2 plugs will work on both. The 16 is a little tighter, but it's no problem. The only thing I wouldn't do is use SPT1 plugs on SPT2 wire or vise-versa. The teeth are set at the wrong distances. More info: Custom extension cords & C7/C9 Stringers
  9. My suggestions: http://www.landolights.com/main/content/category/6/22/39/ There are 3 articles there, 2 on Megatrees (and animating them), 1 on pole trees.
  10. This message is not to my liking... You know.... If the mods here need to protect the users from the word HORRIBLE (which I previously used to describe some of the functionality here and subsequently changed by one of them to 'not to my liking'), you would think they would be ALL over this obvious signature spam, deleting it and the user.
  11. Spammer..... Your 3 messages bear this out.
  12. Are you *SURE* they were vandals and not critters (bunnies/squirrels) that bit through them? Critters chewing on wires looks EXACTLY like someone cut them with a wirecutter. In all these years of people thinking a vandal cut their wires, it has always turned out to be a critter. And think about it: To carry a set of tools takes thought - something that a vandal usually doesn't do in advance. It's easier to pull/tear/stomp than it is to remember to grab cutters, go looking for displays, cut wires. http://forums.planetchristmas.com/showthread.php/37911-Vandals-strike...for-the-4th-time.?p=411659#post411659
  13. Here is my article on Custom extension cords & C7/C9 Stringers. It answers many of your questions...
  14. My suggestions on sequencing and channel layouts for Megatrees. Read both articles, since there is a little in both of them that applies to you: A Simple Method to Build a Megatree Animating Your Megatree
  15. Only when I can plug/direct people to my website. I won't be posting ANYTHING original here any longer since I can never tell when it's going to be deleted or get me put in the ban chair. If someone is going to profit from my musings, it should be me
  16. Like Tim said, strings are now less than 1/2 of the length they used to be. When I started doing my pole trees, 3 100 count sets + 1 50 count set was all that was needed to build the 9' tall version. Today it's over 7 100 count sets. Today's sets are around 22'. Eventually, perhaps even next season unless LEDs make big inroad, I'll bet you see 150 count sets that are in the 28' range (150 lights with todays sets would be around 32').
  17. I don't know why people want to top-coat a wooden cutout when you can paint with exterior latex and just be done with it. You don't top coat your house, so why do it to a cutout? I suppose the problem comes in depending on how 'intricate' you want to paint something. For cartoon-y type cutouts (like the ones I do) 10 solid latex colors (and a little mixing) are just fine. If you are looking for that Bob Ross 'Happy little bush' quality you may need to buy a few more. The last time I bought paint for cutouts (2 years ago?) a qt of exterior latex Walmart paint in a custom color was $7. With the exception of Red and Green, 1 qt of each has been plenty for 50+ cutouts. For $70-$80 you'll have most of the colors you'll ever need. In this hobby, anything under $100 is chump-change. I use these: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Black, Purple, Brown, 'Red Head' (an orangey color and added since I wrote the above article), and 'Flesh'. When I picked out what 'shade', I just went to the paint chip cards and picked out ones I thought looked 'christmassy'. I think in a previous post I named the ones I could actually read from the label. As for mixing, I'm no artist and my pics bear that out! However, even I can't screw up adding a little 'white' to a color to make a lighter version (like white to red for pink), or a little black for a darker hue. When I really need a new color, I try to keep it simple and make sure I mix enough to do the entire piece since I'll never be able to match it again. Also don't forget that sometimes 'close enough is good enough'. I many not have the exact shade of the Trundle families hair, or the perfect Charlie Brown shirt color color, but no one can tell.
  18. I have a bunch on my site: Click --> Animating Your Megatree
  19. I've seen a display where the garage door was covered with white paper. On it they drew a grid and numbered it from 1-25, like a count down calendar. Every night they drew a line through the next number. It was simple and very cool.

  24. Why does this thread continue to live? It's been made abundantly clear that PC is not a place to take comment negatively about a vendor. Time and time again we have been told that the only way to deal with a vendor is by contacting them directly. Even posts that factually set out things (like bugs in a vendor's software and how to reproduce them) have been deleted with stern warnings to the poster that they should NOT be posting those things. This is not one of those grey area 'positive' rule things. CS himself has said time and again that the place to deal with vendors is in private. I am not defending this vendor. In fact, I think posts like this are VALUABLE and SHOULD be allowed in a public forum such as this. IMHO, the 'positive do it privately' rule is actually a DISservice to the community. My question is why is this thread different? Why can this post remain while others are quickly removed? Is there something behind the scenes we don't know about that allows for certain vendors negative posts to be removed, while others have to bear the brunt of having their dirty laundry aired?
  25. Ask yourself this: Do you 'clear coat' your house after painting it? Of course not. Is your house only exposed to the elements 10 months a year? Nope. As long as you used even moderately decent paint (all mine are painted with Wal-Mart brand exterior), they will last. More hints and tips on my website.
