Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready??? Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

      Multi Color Led

Assuming they are still there when stores go to 75% off, I might be able to pick up 50 sets of multi LED's. I am thinking about getting them and converting them to solid color sets. I would be able to make 10 sets each of red, green and blue. There would still be 10 sets each of yellow and gold. Has anyone else done this? What did you do with the yellow and gold lights, I have never seen those colors used in displays very much.
    2. Our Lowes actually had quite a bit yesterday. I picked up all the clear LED's that I need for next year. They still had quite a few multi colored lights that I would grab at 75% off. There discount schedule this year was much different than the past few years. Anyone have a best guess when they will go 75% off?
    3. This does make me ask whether insurance would cover a claim or not. You start to put a value on the hardware and lights in our yards and you are looking at thousands of dollars. Obviously all the time spent is another issue, but replacing the hardware would be hard because it has accumulated over years.
    4. Thanks for the heads up, luckily I was running a bit early for Target this morning and sat down at the computer and saw your message. I probably wouldnt have gone to walmart otherwise till tonite or tommorow. I scored big today at both walmart and target. Our walmart was still loaded. I left alot of the white mini LED's I just bought the solid color ones. Thanks again.
    5. Well hopefully since a few were 75% off today, tommorow will be the big day. Our target still had a quite a few LED's. I hate even paying $3 for a string of lights but I will do it.
    6. We still guessing it will be January 1st for 75% off? Anyone have any inside information yet?
    7. Anyone elses Target 75% off? Ours was still 50%.
    8. Did Target go 75% off on the 30th or 31st last year, anyone remember?
    9. What was Targets schedule on when they went 75% off last year and the year before?
    10. 60% off didnt work in my favor last night, I had hoped the next mark down was going to be 50% off. I had purposely not bought some C9 leds at 40% off. I went into lowes last night to see if they were still there and they were. The problem was at 60% off they were less then $3 and so I couldnt use the coupon. The store manager said they could mark the at 40% off though and I could use the coupon. I am still not complaining though.
    11. I also paid 88 cents for all the lights except for the few C9 lights I bought, they were $1.18. Well I definatly over spent, but who can pass up LED's for under a dollar. The managers in all the stores I went were perfectly OK with the coupon, seemed familiar with it in fact. Like I said the worst part was ringing up 1 set of lights at a time.
    12. I guess this answers your question. I am sure this will condem me by some in the Christmas light community, but I thought I got a good days haul. 4 lowes total, by now they knew they had to ring up 1 set of lights at a time to make sure they got the credit from GE. Those papers on top are all the reciepts, took me over 30 minutes to check out at one store.
    13. Voted Patriotic, please let us know what the final result is, that will be real interesting.

      Tennessee Mini

This sounds like it could be nice.
    15. Was sitting here thinking about the tree. Was curious how you drew it in S2 annimation screen. I couldn't think of a way to draw it to get the effect. Awsome tree btw.
