Did you know?
  • The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. In that day and age, red noses were seen as an indicator of chronic alcoholism and Montgomery Ward didn’t want him to look like a drunkard. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.
  • The Christmas wreath was originally hung as a symbol of Jesus. The holly represents his crown of thorns and the red berries the blood he shed.
  • The three traditional colors of most Christmas decorations are red, green and gold. Red symbolizes the blood of Christ, green symbolized life and rebirth, and gold represents light, royalty and wealth.
  • Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany and was once made of real silver.
  • The oldest artificial Christmas trees date back to the late 1800s and were made of green raffia (think grass hula skirts) or dyed goose feathers. Next the Addis Brush Company used their machinery that wove toilet brushes to create pine-like branches for artificial Christmas trees that were less flammable and could hold heavier decorations.
  • ‘Jingle Bells’ – the popular Christmas song was composed by James Pierpont in Massachusetts, America. It was, however, written for thanksgiving and not Christmas.
  • Coca-Cola was the first company that used Santa Claus during the winter season for promotion.
  • Hallmark introduced their first Christmas cards in 1915.
  • The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine. A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on that day.
  • Santa Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder (variously spelled Donder and Donner), and Blixem (variously spelled Blixen and Blitzen), with Rudolph being a 20th-century inclusion.
  • Outdoor Christmas lights on homes evolved from decorating the traditional Christmas tree and house with candles during the Christmas season. Lighting the tree with small candles dates back to the 17th century and originated in Germany before spreading to Eastern Europe.
  • That big, jolly man in the red suit with a white beard didn’t always look that way. Prior to 1931, Santa was depicted as everything from a tall gaunt man to a spooky-looking elf. He has donned a bishop's robe and a Norse huntsman's animal skin. When Civil War cartoonist Thomas Nast drew Santa Claus for Harper's Weekly in 1862, Santa was a small elflike figure who supported the Union. Nast continued to draw Santa for 30 years, changing the color of his coat from tan to the red he’s known for today.
  • Christmas 2018 countdown has already begun. Will you be ready???
  • Why do we love Christmas? It's all about the traditions. In this chaotic world we can miss the "good old days." Christmas reminds us of that time.

  1. I saw in the local news paper a lowes add that had 15% off all extension cords which expires July 20th. I also found it in the weekly add online in my area of Newark, Delaware. You might be able to combine that with coupon for 10% off or $10 off purchase of $50+. I don't recall how much the purchase had to be. Coupons available in the USPS moving pack which you can find at your local branch office.
  2. Sorry to hear about that. Good luck with moving on.

Just like Chris said. You can use shingle clips and lots of them. Check out Toymaker's website for an example http://www.bazillionlights.com/Tech/LightsTechLights.html
  4. Hey that box doesn't look like recycled phone boxes. You fabricated them yourself right? It looks real nice with 2 LOR boards in it.
  5. This might be a good deal however its a 12volt. Itrimming has the MR16 LED bulb for $3 shipped with coupon code WLBULB [500 uses] Disclaimer: I have never ordered from this store so I don't know how their customer service is or what their ratings are.
  6. Good deal! Thanks for the heads up. I got an order in.
  7. Ours was not displaying or recording any video on tape or on LCD display. However, it played tapes just fine so I have been using it as a tape player and importing video into computer. I e-mailed the service center and they sent back steps to confirm the problem. Once confirmed I e-mailed back and they e-mailed a shipping label. Boxed it up and attached pre-paid label. Just received a letter saying they received it and will be confirming problem and will repair at no expense to us. Should be back to us in about 7 days.

WOW! I can't see your house.
  10. Home Depot has black storage totes for $3.44 each. Probably can not find them for much lower. I'm not sure if its in a circular or not. I was there picking up something else and noticed them right inside the front door.
  11. Just made a trip to a walmart which had quite a few lights left. I started putting together some cases of solid green and solid red. An associate walked by with an ID that looked like it said Asst. Manager. I asked are you a manager. She sarcastically said sometimes. I aksed if I buy 5 or more cases of lights could I get a better discount like 90% off. She was like no we wouldn't do that and that would be like $.10 a box. I said that would only be $.25 cents a box. She said hold on and walked away. She came back a few minutes later and said get want you want and go to register 11. I said thank you very much. I had 3 cases in the cart already. I searched around to make 5 more cases of solid red and solid green. Loaded up the cart and as I was wheeling the cart to the register another associate said are you ready. She overrided the price and rung up the boxes at $.25 each. Still a lot of multi colored(~20 cases), some multi on white, some red on white, few green on green, a few blue on white/green, and maybe a few red on green. I didn't need any multi because I still have cases of multi from last year. Try to find a manager and ask. They might say yes but you won't know unless you ask. She said they will just stay at 75% until gone. Wouldn't throw out unless they were like nickel. No LEDs to be found though.
  12. Yea I'm hoping for those enclosures to come back too!
  13. They have new packaging this year. Box is green and last years box was red. If there red boxes then old stock, green box new this year.
  14. I called a target 35 miles away and found out they went to 90% off yesterday. I went right after work to go get the solid red and solid green lights they had left when I was there on Sunday(was hoping it would be 90% off then). Well yesterday when I got there they were gone. There were an estimated 175 boxes of both solid red and solid green phillips on Sunday at 75% off. There were only 4 crushed/torn boxes of red when I got there. I was bummed but that's what I get for being cheap. I'm over it, now onto scoping out Walmart in the same area. I'm waiting for 90% off too. Stopped there after Target and Walmart is still 75% off but they have lots of lights left.
